With all the proship stances you've been making recently I just wanted to put my two cents in:

I feel like the reason proshipping gets the reputation it has is because of apps like tiktok where younger people hear a term, water it down to the absolute max and then apply it to nearly everything they dislike, and people make it way worse than it actually is

"Fiction affects reality" is the most used stance i see and to some degree they are right but. Holy moly two characters doing immoral things to eachother isn't gonna change the world, especially when its a situation where you can choose to see it or not

If you really don't wanna see that thing then block and move on, it isn't that hard

(For the record i am not an anti or a proshipper i think labels for ships are dumb: i mainly agree with everything you have said and I do not personally enjoy stuff like noncon or pedophilia in fiction, just to give you an idea)

to be fair, the “proship” and “anti ship” have been one of the most famous fandom discourses way before TikTok was even created.

and I believe that if people do terrible things in real life because of something they saw from a piece of media then chances are they were already troubled and they would have done those terrible things anyway whether or not they consumed that media, as @allthingswhumpyandangsty said before, people do bad things in real life because they are bad people. a movie, a tv show, a book or a fanfic doesn’t make someone do bad things.

no one starts murdering and eating people in real life because they like Hannibal. so the term “fiction affects reality” is a very weak stance because while fiction can affect reality, fiction alone isn’t going to make someone eat people in real life because that someone is a big fan of Hannibal. my point is, yes, fiction can affect reality. but it’s not going to affect reality to the point the entirety of people’s moral compass change. and if it does get to that point then the real issue would be that these people were already troubled. not because they watched a tv show where the main character is a cannibal.

also, yes, the block button is your friend. see something that makes you uncomfortable? that’s what the block button is for. harassing people for liking fictional things you hate just makes you a shitty person in general who values the lives of fictional characters who are not real over the lives of real people.

Cw - grooming, pedophilia, sexual assault. You can delete this if you’re not comfortable answering

I was 13 when I was groomed by an adult who’s very well known in my fandom (they run a big fan account with thousands of followers, so they’re very popular) and 17 when I was sexually assaulted by the same person. And the ironic part is this person is very open about being anti. They often harass proshippers because “proshippers are bad people in real life” while at the same time they were the one grooming and sexually assaulting me in real life. So I guess they have no trouble protecting fictional children while abusing a real minor lol

From what happened to me, my whole view of antis is that “they HAVE to hide something and that’s why they label themselves as antis so no one suspects they are actual predators irl”.

I still have to take my antidepressant and see my therapist. And every time I see someone says they’re “an anti” I stop interacting with them because my brain automatically sees being antis as a huge red flag because chances are that they are hiding their predatory side behind the Anti Mask.

It’s like everything antis accused proshippers of IS a confession of their own predatory behavior.

I’ve always felt comforted chilling with proshippers because most of them are chill and most - if not all - of them CAN separate fiction from reality.

Another reason why I think antis are the dangerous ones is that most of them can’t separate fiction from reality. It’s like they think they will get exposed of being irl predators if they say they like dark fics BECAUSE THEY (ANTIS) ACTUALLY ARE IRL PREDATORS.

My abuser is STILL harassing proshippers and interacting with other antis and no one in my fandom knows what their beloved anti did to me because they’re so popular and I’m not ready to come forward with my story. But it’s so triggering to see them talk about protecting fictional children knowing damn well they raped me when I was a minor.

Your blog has always been a safe place for me and seeing your posts in support of being proshippers, being anti harassment and keeping fandom safe is a huge green flag.

As a victim of sexual abuse, I will always trust a proshipper over an anti any day.

Thank you for keeping your blog a safe space for us

“talking about protecting fictional children while raping a real child”. I have no words. I’m so sorry this happened to you, anon. knowing my blog can provide you comfort gives me small comfort, but I’m so sorry you had to go through this.

Antis aren’t known for “protecting fictional children”.

They’re actually known for “harassing real people over fictional things” , “putting the lives and well beings of fictional children over real people” and “not being able to separate fiction from reality”.

It’s the equivalent of people protesting in front of a movie theatre in the 80s because “horror movies are satanic and dangerous”.

(And for the record, I am disgusted by those ships, but you’ll never see me harass real people who like those ships that I personally hate, because their ships aren’t my ships and I choose to mute/block them and mind my own business instead of harassing and accusing them of being predators based on their taste in fiction alone.)

Like… sorry if this upsets you, but just because you can’t separate fiction from reality doesn’t mean I can’t separate fiction from reality.

by the way, if a ship disgusts you but you don’t harass people who ship it, you’re a proshipper.

being a proshipper isn’t exclusive to only “enjoying a ship that would have been morally unacceptable in real life”.

being a proshipper just means “being against online harassment”.

you can be a proshipper and be disgusted by some specific ships at the same time, as long as you don’t harass people who enjoy them.

being a proshipper literally just means you know how to scroll past / ignore / mute / block things that make you uncomfortable instead of “attacking people for enjoying these fictional things”.

being a proshipper means being against bullying and harassing people over fictional things because you can separate fiction from reality and you know that how people choose to enjoy fictional things is not your business. that’s all.

Yo you just rb'd a post from a proshipper jsyk

respectfully, I don’t care what fictional things a person enjoys, it’s not my business, as long as they don’t hurt anyone in real life.

I’m not a fandom police and I hate fandom police. this is a fandom police free zone. ship the most fucked up fictional ship you can think of, because if you’re older than 3, I trust that you can separate fiction from reality.
