SJM in Oscars

idk I was bored so I decided to do this… Scroll to see what would win the Oscars from the SJM books!! Not all of the Oscar titles apply, so I’ve only done the ones that do.

1. Best Picture Scene ‘Get Up’ from Throne of Glass: this is pretty self-explanatory… I think we all found this so moving.

2. Best Actress Female Character Aelin Ashryver Galathynius from the Throne of Glass Series: Even though both Feyre and Aelin are amazing characters to choose from, I feel like Aelin is the more nuanced one, because she has a much more interesting backstory and her character development from Celaena to Aelin is incredible.

3. Best Actor Male Character Rhysand from the A Court of Thorns and Roses Series: Rhys was such a complex character, because he’s incredibly feminist, empowering, and swoon-worthy, but he also has his own self-evident flaws, which makes him such a realistic character.

4.  Best Original Song Quote “I was not a pet, not a doll, not an animal. I was a survivor, and I was strong. I would not be weak, or helpless again I would not, could not be broken. Tamed.” from A Court of Mist and Fury: I feel like this quote is what sums up the entire message of the book - it perfectly captures the importance of being a strong, self-confident, empowered person who should never submit to anyone else. But at the same time, it also captures Feyre’s backstory, and it encapsulates the fact that abuse survivors can recover, and that it’s okay if you haven’t always been this way - finding yourself if more important.

5. Best Live Action Empire of Storms: Okay, I know this one was heartbreaking, but that final scene was some of the best movement SJM has written, because along with all of that was this constant reveal and heartache and ahhhh help I can’t stop the feels

6. Best Supporting Actress Female Character Nesta Archeron from the A Court of Thorns and Roses Series: Nesta is hands down THE most detailed, character with depth. She comes across as cold and heartless, but the more you read about her, the more you realize that she isn’t actually like this, that she’s actually so loving and suffers so much.

7. Best Supporting Actor Male Character MortLorcan from the Throne of Glass Series: The best characters are always the ones with flaws, and Lorcan is the perfect embodiment of that. He’s shown himself to be so protective and caring for his friends, but at the same time he has this huge, complex attachment to his abuser/the villain, and then come his flaws like betrayal and stuff, which overall make him both powerful and very vulnerable at the same time.

8. Best Overall A Court of Mist and Fury: Okay this was actually a very difficult one. But while ACOMAF had a little less substance for plot, it had such rich, intense character building. Plus there were so many inspiring messages, all the while focusing on themes of abuse and recovery. Along with that, the prose in the ACOTAR series has generally been a lot more emphasized and the focus on language is a lot more prominent.
