I really want to thank you for the insightful tags. And i'm glad that you are warming up to zly's performance.
honestly as a new fan, i really don't know too much about the background behind this drama. after watching that 10 min zly interview and the 2 min character video on wu xie, i do get what you mean more. i also get why xu lei (nan pai san shu) wanted so badly for zly to play the role (he and zly met in person coincidentally when they were both trying to help direct the traffic while being stuck in the snow in 2016. they were being stuck for so long that day, and they then talked a lot about dmbj, and xu lei felt that zly really had that wu xie vibe in him, and insisted on inviting zly to play wu xie at some point.)
zly said this is actually his favourite parallel scene between wu xie and zhang qiling. i do also appreciate his interpretation here. he said that before he met xu lei in person he already read a few dmbj books, and before he started the shooting, he made sure he finished all the dmbj books. he even brought a page with his favorite paragraphs describing wu xie to the interview. you can tell he really adores the characters, and have insightful understanding of them.
in the 2 min special wu xie video released a few days ago, wu xie is going to get betrayed and stabbed, and someone will die because of him, and he'll slip into that depressive state. then he's going to "use a stronger shell to wrap and protect the innocence and his true inner self" as zly said in the interview.
xu lei said because this series would showcase the transition state of wu xie from tian zhen to xie di, so he really needed someone with good acting skills to take on the role. i think we can already see the transition subtly starting, and i can't wait for the angsty part to kick in so that we can see the full on transition unfold.

Reunion: The Sound Of The Providence / The Lost Tomb (Reboot): Episode 16
1. Chinese censorship died a violent death 😂
2. I love how each time Wu Xie roasts someone about being “silly” when they’re in love, Pangzi roasts him right back with “like you and Xiaoge are any better”. This happens a lot in the books, but it’s usually cut lmao.
3. Ouch I’m not crying bc of Wu Xie’s face at the end, no.

Reunion: The Sound of the Providence: Season 2: Episode 19
Wu Xie making Xiao Ge smile
the long awaited pingxie (+ pangzi) reunion (T▽T)
I’d just like to note, for the record, that what iQiyi translates as:
is, originally:
你还是继续卖身抵债吧. which translates to: “You should just continue to sell yourself (your body) to pay off the debt.”
+ Wu Xie, firsthand witness to most HeiHua interactions: (there’s a reason he just walks away most of the time)
My head cannon for how Heihua gets together is hei Xiazi jokely said “I’ll suck your d*ck for 5 goats. Xiao Hua is just ” I’ll do two". (Cut to a 20 chapter sugar baby slow burn.) Apparently thsts head cannon that’s slightly cannon.
“Someone to live for.” Happy 3rd Broadcast Anniversary Reunion The Sound of The Providence & Zhu Yilong’s Wu Xie.
“i am not broken. i am human. and sometimes my pain is visible, through bruises and scrapes and scars. and sometimes my pain is hidden, carried deep within my heart. there is a smile on my face and sadness inside. but that does not mean i am broken. i am simply alive.”
