i told myself i would quickly redo this post before doing anything else bc i don’t really have all these brushes anymore so i did hahaha. EXTREMELY HUGE MASTERPOST FEAT. ALL MY IMPORTANT BRUSHES!

ummmm, info on some of my brushes :

  • i use the ‘Blotchy Thick’ brush on most of my art! really good for lineart.
  • the ‘Ballpoint Pen’ is really handy for writing.
  • the ‘Pen’ brush is one of my fave brushes! idk it just has like. that really crisp looking edge to it. i tried to get it look really nice like a photoshop brush.
  • ‘Pencil’ brush is what i use for editing dangan ronpa sprites!
  • 'Smooth Jazz’ is really cool. it looks all wispy if you hold your stylus down and add pressure lightly.
  • 'Sumi-E’ is really cool and handy when it comes to making those really old Japanese styled traditional art.
  • a lot of these textures should be in SAI already! heck, most of my brushes don’t even have textures.

why doesnt my sai have all these settings

IF I GET SAI

Just a quick tip to artists

If you’re an artist who likes to work really close, (like me), do yourself a favor and put up two views. You can do this by clicking View–> New on your toolbar.

There’s nothing worse than finally zooming out and realizing what you were doing was very wrong. This saved me a lot of grief tbh. I’m sure everyone knows this already but ._.;; I arrived quite late to that party.

WHAT

That’s amazing..

Does this work for Photoshop?

For Photoshop you’ll wanna go to Window > Arrange > New Window for [Document].

BRINGING THIS BACK BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HELPFUL THIS HAS BEEN. This will save you hours and hours of backtracking (fixing a thing close up, zooming back out and realizing that the thing you fixed doesn’t work with the rest of the picture–rinse and repeat). As someone who uses the ‘squint and see if it looks right’ method of drawing anatomy, the tiny window is a goddamned life saver.

HOLY CARP!!!

@krita-foundation is there a way to do this in Krita, this would be really useful

Yes.

First settings->configure Krita->general->window->multiple document mode set to subwindow.

then, open a doc, window->new view-><doc name>

then window->tile

Very useful tip. Thank you!

It’d be great if Krita’s overview docker can be as fast & high-quality as a document view. It’s much move intuitive to use that instead. Easier to call out and manage too.

Hey dudes this is a FREE extension I just finished for Windows after ages and ages of reverse engineering of Painttool Sai. It provides thumbnails for the .sai file type from right within explorer so you can preview the contents of .sai files and it even works for .sai files within folders like this folder full of .sai files and with Window’s built-in preview panel

Hey! So this all started as a simple random color script for Paint Tool Sai but now it’s starting to grow into something bigger!

This is SaiPal. It is a tool I wrote after reverse engineering Paint Tool Sai for so long and reads/writes directly to its memory to do a lot of cool features!

i feel bad for people who use sai but dont know about stabilizer, transparent brushes and clipping groups

this is where you find stabilizer:

i personally prefer to use S-4 for default drawing and S-7 when i need to draw really long smooth lines. this is what it does:

this is where you find transparent brush:

when you enable it, you can use your currently selected brush as eraser. this is what it does:

this is where you find clipping group:

you have to have at least two layers, the base layer and the one for the colors. when you draw on the layer with little red bar on side, the stuff you put on the layer appears only on top of the things you have on the base layer. the effect is p much same as preserving opacity except you dont change anything about the base layer and you can still use layer textures and effects. this is what it does:

reblog this to save a life

THANK YOU SO MUCH

i dont use Sai but i know most of you guys do so!!

Askshinyglacia Toolset

I figured I would just have one post with all my tools in case anyone wants to give them a whirl. Plus then I can just link one post easily. Obviously I use sai, so these won’t work for other programs…! Sorry!

Textures X/X

Lineart Tool/Sketching Tool

Coloring/Shading Tool

I keep my stabilizer at 8 (sketching, writing, coloring) and 12-13 (lineart). I also use the standard airbrush and water brush, but that’s it…!

My mom keeps on talking about taking the laptop I work on to clear it out so it can work faster, which means deleting SAI and I don’t feel like making up and figuring out new brushes when that happens since I’m fond of this one!

I didn’t see any many galaxy/nebula brushes floating around, so I made my own! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧*:・゚✧  Hope someone find it helping ;v;

You have to add detail and effect by self, but it’s pretty easy!! Maybe I make tutorial on it later ;v;

I suggest detail and blend layers on luminosity or addition!! Use bright colours!

FOR BLENDING:

I suggest using a watercolour brush on following sets:

Size: 26.0

Min size: 60%

Density: 100%

Spread: 50%

(No Texture)

Blending: 50

Dilution: 50

Persistence: 80

Keep opacity: yes

Smoothing Prs: 50%

+Advanced Settings:

Quality: 2

Edge Hardness: 0

Min Density: 0

Max Dens Prs: 100%

Hard <-> Soft: 100

Dens: Yes Size: Yes Blend: Yes

FOR DETAILING:

I suggest using a brush on the following sets:

Size: 100.0

Min size: 3%

Density: 54%

Spread: 100%

(No Texture)

Blending: 49

Dilution: 0

Persistence: 80

Keep opacity: no

+Advanced Settings:

Edge Hardness: 0

Min Density: 10

Max Dens Prs: 49%

How does one upload new brushes to Sai?

Avatar
  1. http://ptsbrushes.tumblr.com/
  2. https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/custom-brush
  3. http://skyflamelitmoon23.deviantart.com/favourites/52029934/SAI-Settings-Tutorials

Like some of these don’t even really need to download the .bmp files and that’s like. Even more rad. Truly amazing ain’t I rite? And like, the last link even comes with bonus Photoshoppe brushes. Helle.

I mean if you’re still confused you can just go to a youtube tut video, I’m not the best teacher y’know (x)

The tutorial of how I achieve watercolor effect in Sai! :) I highly recommend using real watercolor paintings (your own or ones found on the internet) as reference.

And here you can find a few useful links:

  1. You can download the Sai file of this picture here: link
  2. Video process of painting another picture: link
  3. The old watercolor tutorial: link
  4. Sai brushes (none of them is made by me) link + file you need to open them in Sai: link
