was in the mood to read something romantic or tragi-romantic so i read "if beale street could talk" by james baldwin. truthfully, the part of the story that i don't think i'll ever forget is the subplot where the main character's mom, by all accounts a mild-mannered woman, is conscripted by her son-in-law's lawyer to leave the mainland united states to briefly become a de facto private investigator in puerto rico (without being able to speak any spanish). what people will do for love!
latia and i sat in a beautiful park today and gazed at each other so lovingly that a stranger walked up to us and demanded one of our phones to take a picture of us
then later we sat on a different bench at the same park and a bunch of ducks came up out of the lake to chill out next to us. they've got magic in this world still

latia and i were talking about female japanese tv writers, and she was looking up reiko yoshida's filmography to see if she'd done any super sentai or anything like that to see if i remembered any of her work. she didn't find anything, but when i checked later my extremely trained toku otaku eye picked out that she wrote for goddamn Bunny Knights
tonight we booted up tubi and watched "beyond the infinite two minutes" which is a sci-fi movie about what might happen if the cast of friends got in trouble with the yakuza
circling back to say we've now also watched the movie river (2023), also directed by junta yamahuchi, which is a love story about two young people in a small town trapped in a time loop, and a chef in the building across the street who is absolutely locked the fuck in trying to end the loop by solving most of the mysteries offscreen
thinking about how there's still a non-zero chance of kamala harris becoming the 47th US president
ideal punchline to this whole saga is joe biden passing away quietly on christmas morning and giving harris a tenure clocking in well below william henry harrison's

earlier tonight i was talking with latia about how i was wanting to start writing something, and she asked me if i was thinking of doing a visual novel. internally i was like "huh that's weird that she brought that up since i've never worked on anything like that before". only just now did i remember that i released a prototype visual novel on itchio like two and a half years ago. i deadass forgot
literally do not remember anything about what my life was like before i got my current job lmao

i'm completely and totally at peace because i checked on latia and her mood has significantly improved from the last time i checked on her and i know from her social media posts it's because she received word directly from the pokemon company that her favorite train conductors are alive and well and look as goofy as ever ahhhh sometimes life feels like a picnic *falls asleep immediately*

the best part of that movie is how zeiram is almost completely emotionless except for the scene where he tries to make a fucked up homunculus monster out of kamiya's dna and then he starts howling angrily because it sucks
the other night we watched zeiram on the tubi streaming service. absolutely sicko toku monster flick by keita amemiya (who i'm a huge fan of but never got around to seeing this). this movie reminded me even more of john capenter flicks than his other work. it's also got one of the coolest opening scenes of all time (gore in this (not al gore)):
latia: what do you think of this hot take about the american-made ultraman movie on netflix?
me: well, first of all *45 uninterrupted minutes of me talking later* and there was also an episode about kanegon, a little boy who was cursed to have to eat money to survive
tonight we watched tarsem singh's "the fall" which is a really damn good movie about a guy describing a subpar dungeons and dragons campaign
latia hit me with the "tsuki ga kirei desu ne" tonight
