Purpleyin's slightly fannish tumblr

@purpleyin / purpleyin.tumblr.com

Hi, I'm Hans (they/them). Spoonie. Demi-bi & polyam. Waves from the UK. I write fanfic, create moodboards, other graphics, fanmixes and on occasion fanvids. I like a good rec, tend to multiship and love decent character/case/team/gen stuffs too. Fannish about so many fandoms.

Celebrate Trans Authors and Trans Characters this Transgender Awareness Week!

Happy Transgender Awareness Week everyone!! We asked our rec list contributors for their favorite books with trans characters or by trans authors, and the result is this list of 20 awesome books, all with trans characters (though some open to interpretation) and most by trans authors! This adds to the list of 11 books we did for Transgender Awareness Week last year. The contributors to this list are: Linnea Peterson, S. J. Ralston, Nina Waters and Shannon.

What are your favorite books by trans authors and/or starring trans characters?

You can see all our favorite books with transgender characters by visiting our related shelf on Goodreads.

Amazon Screwed Over a Queer Book

Hannah Moskowitz, author of some of my absolute favorite books such as Salt (siblings who hunt sea monsters together stay together!), Gena/Finn (queer girls in fandom spaces!), and Sick Kids In Love (chronically ill teens get a happy ending romance!) wrote a new book. It’s called Sugar Summer and she describes it as her lesbian Dirty Dancing book.

She’s self-publishing it on Amazon because it doesn’t have a traditional publisher behind it. It’s been listed on Amazon for a while for pre-order.

Then, this morning, I and every other person who had pre-ordered it got an email from Amazon saying the book was not going to be published and our orders had been canceled and refunded.

Hannah Moskowitz had not cancelled the book. Amazon fucked up, took down the listing, and robbed her of all the pre-order sales it had gained in the middle of a pandemic in which authors are struggling to stay afloat.

She got in touch with Amazon and got it re-listed, but Amazon probably won’t do anything else to fix the mistake. People have to manually re-buy it themselves, and those who don’t know the cancellation was a mistake might not do so.

So, if you had the book pre-ordered? You can still get your Lesbian Dirty Dancing! It’s out now! Support the author!

If you had never heard of the book? Look up Sugar Summer! You might want to read this ownvoices queer summer romance!
