J: that son of a - banshee. He told you this was about two people? Either he’s more of a moron than I thought or a ballsier liar than I assumed. No, clearly, there’s the voice of the poem - anytime there’s a first-person pronoun - there’s the voice’s love, and there’s the ‘her’ with the kiss. That’s basic analysis, how dare he call himself a troubadour?

C: and how would you know?

J: well, I’d better, I wrote the damn thing.

Y: *wanted to scold him on his language but is suddenly processing* when did you write this?

J: *conspicuous silence* at any rate, you can rest assured. It’s three people.

Y: was this before or after Burn?

J: *more conspicuous silence*

Jaskier: knows Yennefer is stronger than him even without powers also Jaskier: trying to help/protect her anyway

Do y'all think Jaskier said goodbye to Roach after episode 6?

Because I’m just imagining Jaskier making his way back down the mountain with the dwarves, keeping a brave face and running away from other random monsters like the hirikka on the way, kinda half-listening to the dwarves talk about their prize after they’ve repeatedly told him they have no idea what actually happened in the cave.

And when he gets to the bottom and they part ways bc the dwarves wanna hurry back and claim their prize, he’s just so alone. Until he sees Roach.

He goes over and checks on her, makes sure she’s alright, that she’s got some food and hasn’t been attacked by anything or stolen. He’s alone now so he finally lets himself cry a little as he runs his hand down Roach’s neck.

As much as he knows he’s gonna miss Geralt, he always does when they part ways, not knowing if he’ll see him in a few weeks or a couple years or at all since there’s always the risk Geralt won’t come back when he goes to slay a monster, he knows he’ll miss Roach too. The way she seems to know enough about what ppl say to her to respond, affectionately headbutting Geralt or huffing, exasperated, when Jaskier tries out new lyrics on her.

Knows he’ll miss the sound of her hooves as he’s wandering off to gods know where. The scent of hay that always clings to her. Spoiling her with apples whenever they find a town with cheap produce.

He’s gonna miss all of it, almost as much as he’s gonna miss Geralt, the big stupid beautiful asshole. He’s still trying to hold back tears bc Julian Alfred Pankratz, Viscount de Lettenhove, does not cry over heartbreak.

But he’s absolutely crying as he says goodbye to her. And maybe Geralt sees.

He’s just made his way back down the mountain himself, still angry, still hurting, still hating himself for the way he always fucks everything up. He looks over towards Roach and sees Jaskier standing beside her, head down as he strokes her nose and runs his fingers through her mane, mumbling something to her.

And he just feels even worse. He just told Jaskier he wants him out of his life, practically spat in his face when Jaskier was only trying to help console him, when Jaskier hadn’t even wanted to get involved, had been wiser than all of them in being steadfastly refusing to tag along until Geralt said he was in and Jaskier’s infuriating loyalty led him to follow after the Witcher like a lost puppy dog.

Yet here Jaskier is, saying goodbye to Geralt’s horse. The fucking bastard.

Jaskier doesn’t notice Geralt, too busy trying to compose himself as he bids what he fears will be his final farewell to Roach before wandering off. Somewhere far away from the coast and his ridiculous daydreams.

As he turns and walks away, he glances back at Roach and calls, “See you around, Roach” and hopes to the gods he will.

…that makes the whole thing even more heartbreaking, but I think he did and ughhh, your writing is amazing! Thank you for sharing this. Now if you excuse me:
