i love the irony of rimmer spending the whole season wanting his dog back only to get immediately shot in the head when he does

one of my favourite (headcanon!!) autistic dirk moments: struggling with comforting other people and recognising their body language.

here farah is very visibly stressed and upset and obviously doesn't want to be touched. dirk doesn't seem to recognise this and (i think?) tries to comfort farah with physical touch, although he could also be poking her to get her attention as she appears to be zoning out.

either way, dirk tries to comfort farah and isn't good at it at all, his touch is very awkward and probably quite annoying. farah reacts with visible frustration which he picks up on, and removes his hand, but not before hovering it awkwardly in the air for a second, as if he's still going to try again.

then he withdraws his hand further, clenching it into a fist, which could just be one of those awkward "what do i do with my hands" situations. but it could also be a way of trying to repress movement, with how tight his fist his clenched it looks a little bit like he's trying to prevent himself from reaching out again. especially with the way his fist shakes a little bit in the air, (could also be repressed stimming?)

then, he abandons his plan on trying to comfort her physically (thank god XD) and goes to sit next to her. i interpret this a little bit as mirroring (when you try and copy what someone else is doing), to try and relate to her and understand her a little more.

there are many instances where dirk is shown to be very good at comforting people, even if his methods aren't very conventional, but instances like this do show how he struggles with it. i think he usually struggles with reading people/comforting them when he doesn't know them very well, like here he and farah have known each other for barely any time.

this is an unfinished thingy i gave up on a while ago but i think dirk and todd look cute

the real reason im sad we didn't get a 3rd dghda season is because we never got to see more angry dirk
