I love the idea of a timeloop but the whole story is told from the pov of the person not stuck in it. suddenly this random person they've never met before comes up to them and demands the craziest thing, seems to know them more intimately than anyone, appears to not have slept in months, and has the most peculiarly haunted look about them like they've faced death a hundred times over. bros go on an adventure. how does our protagonist respond to every sentence finished for them? to every wistful look their new companion casts their way? What about the mindless efficiency with which they avoid hidden dangers? Imagine the quiet atmosphere when the looper makes the protagonist's coffee exactly the way they like, without needing to be asked, and the protagonist finally gets it--"we've been here before, haven't we?" how often do they cry?

there's also huge comedic potential. oh? random guy you've never met runs up and kisses you on the mouth? the two of you embark on the weirdest conceivable journey to complete a litany of unthinkable tasks? you make it home in time for dinner and they somehow know your grandmother's secret meatloaf recipe by heart? you wake up the next morning to find the stranger (are they really a stranger anymore?) making you waffles in your kitchen?? the coffee is exactly how you like it????

It doesn’t get talked about enough, but This Discord Has Ghosts In It is a rad example of how you can adapt game design to your surroundings.

Basically, This Discord Has Ghosts In It is a digital larp. It’s Phasmophobia played by chat. Your group creates a discord server to function as a haunted house, then you all explore it, building new ‘rooms’ out of channels as you go.

Some players take the roles of ghosts, and are muted but can affect the environment in the haunted house.

Other players take the roles of explorers, and can talk, but the ghosts are all listening.

Discord wasn’t built to be gamified this way, but that doesn’t matter.

As long as you can guarantee consistent behavior from a thing, you can build mechanics off of it.

Anything in your environment can be turned into a game.

And in this particular case, it’s a really good one!

The mechanics lend themselves well to the kinds of pacing, limited communication, and untrustworthy setting that any good ghost story needs.

Oh man, I saw something about this a while ago, it looks really fun and cute!

I bought this years ago - probably because of this post - and it includes a lot of traditional art and folklore inspiration as well as genuine educational bits. Your can choose to stop and learn about the cultural context of what you are doing and seeing along the way and the core story is based on beliefs they felt were most important. A really great experience, I might need to go back and do it again.

Since Adobe is basically killing flash games/movies by discontinuing the plugin a team of freelancers creator what amounts to a flash game emulator and are working on archiving as many flash games as they can for preservation before the sites hosting them start going down.

They already have 6GB of games in the current release of the archive and the download is here for those that don’t want to click on the Discord server in the Reddit thread:

The dev that’s in the Reddit thread said they managed to track down an archive of some obscure game that isn’t been playable online for 11 years and get it patched up for the archive.

What’s happening with Flash?

Adobe is discontinuing the web plugin by 2020 and since it won’t be updated any longer many browsers are making plans to remove support for it.

So flash games are now at risk of facing a complete apocalypse and mass-extinction. This project is seeking to back-up and make playable on their own system as many as they can before the sites start going down. 

They will pry Pony Generator and Sonic Snake from my cold, dead hands

This is actually really, really important to me. My little brother is 13 and he just got Overwatch. He’s played online games in the past such as Counter Strike, TF2, and others, and I ALWAYS worry about someone being mean to him. He’s really sensitive and takes people’s words to heart really easily. Please, before you get mad at someone in a game, consider that you might be playing with a child.
