Part One Santi’s phone rings while he’s in a drive-thru. It’s almost comical. He’s irritated with the car in front of him for taking too long. He just wants some damn fries.

He doesn’t even take a second look at the number when he answers his cell.

“Yeah?” he greets them.

“Pope.”

The voice is low and ragged. Santi flinches - his hands sweat around the steering wheel as he blinks dumbly ahead of him.

“Pope. Are you there?”

His stomach has dropped to the floor - has gone underground. He recognizes that voice - the cadence - the grit. All of it.

“Will?” he gasps as the car behind him honks.

He realizes there’s no one in front of him.

It’s a beautifully, messy, sweet, brutal masterpiece (parts 1 & 2) and I love it 😍 the scene setting, the emotions, the little sprinkle of details here and there, brilliant 🤩

It’s a mistake before it starts.

You’re just so fucking sad - torn up with a grief that bobs in your chest and makes you struggle to breathe.

We never found a body but he couldn’t have survived that crash. It went right into the water.

You lie in your bed - watch the shadows stroll shapes across your ceiling - figures in the dark.

You think of your Will - lost in the sea - his gorgeous body descending into the deep - slow as falling snow.  The weight of it nestling in the sand and maybe finding peace.

Did it hurt, my love?

Did you feel it?

They brought you a flag. You fold it over.

This is heartbreakingly epically beautiful! The imagery is perfection, I was right there! I felt every ounce of grief and anger and remorse. The friendships were so sweet and the confession was just wow 🤩 I’m simply astounded and in awe of this wonderful writing!!
