Ally’s breath clouded in the cold air, and she tugged the thick blanket tighter around her shoulders. The babbling stream was the soundtrack to her afternoon, and the balcony of the secluded cabin was where she intended to stay until she grew too cold and required the heat of the fire in the lounge.
Self-reflection had never been easy, but being alone with nothing but nature, books, and an extensive movie collection, she’d had little time for anything other than devouring literature and soul searching. But now, with Bruce Wayne smiling back at her from the tablet she had propped up on the table to save her hands from having to be outside the cocoon of her blanket, she’d never felt more at peace.
“Thank you for helping me, Bruce,” she said, feeling inadequate in her ability to thank him properly. “After what I did…”
“Hey, water under the bridge,” he assured, genuinely. “I’m just glad you let me help you get away from Waller. Like I said, I don’t want your power in the hands of someone like her. I’ve got my guys working on a cure. If there is one, they’ll find it.”
“What? How did you know?”
“A friend of yours filled me in on the deal you made,” he explained.
