She beams as he pulls her close in the crystal blue water and kisses her forehead, and then he whispers: “any sign of him?” She giggles as if he’s said something cute, her eyes glancing over the golden sands before them, before shaking her head.

“Nothing,” she sighs. But her eyes do lock with one person. Even though he’s a little further away, and tucked out of view for anyone who doesn’t know he’s there, Y/N can see the glare on Bucky’s face from here. While she and Bucky aren’t together, they definitely aren’t friends either. Many nights between the sheets have proven that. It’s never been anything serious, always just some way to relieve the tension after a mission, but recently he’s seemed different. She’s seen the way he looks at her sometimes, especially since she and Sam have been getting closer.

sunday best

“You’re staring.” He says that Sunday morning, eyes still completely closed, eyelashes fanning the apples of his cheeks as he wears a fond and sleepy smile.

You were, but you still attempted to refute it. “I’m admiring. There’s a difference.”

“It’s creepy.”

“You’re creepy.”

Your incredibly clever comeback is rewarded with a face full of pillow. After the shock that your significant other just threw a pillow at you wears off, you roll over from your side of the bed to straddle his stomach, and dance your fingers in the spot where you know he’s sensitive. Because, while he may be a strong and mighty Avenger, your man is also incredibly ticklish, and that is ammo that comes in very handy for you for times like these.

He laughs - infectious, bubbling, and like the sun making itself known through the fog clearing. He’s able to wrestle you so that you’re the one under him, trapping your dangerous hands into one of his own to hold above your head.

He looks down at you, eyes flirting between arousal and playfulness, but overall, blatantly showing the love he has for you. You recognize it, because you’re certain that the exact expression is mirrored on your face.

You tilt your head upwards to capture his lips with yours. He melts into it, letting  your hands go to rest his on either sides of your head.

You eventually pull away, giddy, slightly out of breath with rapid heartbeats - but not too far, as you caress his cheek with your left hand. He turns his face to place a kiss onto your palm, and then onto the ring he had put on your finger mere hours earlier.

“I love you, wife-to-be.”

Just as you were about to respond, Redwing comes barrelling into the room (the contraption bears a scarily similar resemblance to Bucky, you note), doing a small twirl around Sam before descending onto the bed next to you.

“Look at that. Go on. Pet him”, Sam says, sporting his signature (and glorious) gap-toothed grin at you.

“Is it too late to give the ring back?”

“Nice try. You love me.”

And boy did you. You were stupidly, irrevocably, in love with Sam Wilson, today and every Sunday after that.

Cuuuuuute!! And honestly, who wouldn’t want to stare at him?! 🥰😍

For maybe the hundredth time that night, Sam kicked himself for only now noticing how she’d filled out from the awkward wallflower he’d grown up with into the confident, beautiful young woman he now held in his arms.

If Sam was content, it was nothing to how Skylar was feeling. Right then, on that dancefloor, she felt like she was in heaven. Dreams didn’t get much better than this. She was dancing with Sam Wilson. His body was pressed against her in all the places she’d dreamt about. She’d been crushing on her brother’s best friend since before he left for college two years earlier, so when Riley insisted that Sam escort her to Senior prom, she hadn’t put up a fight. Plus, it didn’t hurt her reputation, as most of her classmates thought he was hot.
