Am I being checked out while checking him out? 

I scan the barcode on the back cover. His eyes are trained on my face with a little more interest than usual.

Do I have some spinach between my teeth from the salad I had for lunch? God, why does he have to do that thing with his tongue?

I readjust the glasses on the bridge of my nose and make some quiet small talk with the gorgeousness in front of me. I do most of the talking and he does most of the nodding.

No. Dean Winchester is not checking me out. He’s just existing and breathing and short circuiting my brain as he tends to do on occasion with his proximity. 

I will not fuss with my hair like I always do when he’s close enough for me to smell him. Oh, Goddammit.

I feel like a sixteen year old around this man. Every damn time. It’s not fair. It happened the first time I met him six years ago. He’d handed over the paperwork and I processed his library card application. He smiled that lopsided grin that says, You poor unsuspecting creature. I’m so handsome I don’t even have to make much of an effort . 

That was the day he and his mountain man of a brother, Sam, walked into the Smith Center Library. Back when they had used Campbell as their last names on the application. And before they had helped with a haunting that blew their aliases. At least with me. It was a “job” for them that involved my brother five towns over. The house he had bought for a song at a sheriff sale, turned out, came with a supernatural squatter. 

“No shit it was cheap. Because someone was murdered in it. No offense, but your brother was pretty much asking for trouble knowing that going in.” I still remember Dean’s very accurate logic when they’d gotten the full history. 

I shouldn’t feel like a sixteen year old - when I’m 46, speeding toward 47 in a couple months - with a man five years my junior. Even if it is Dean Winchester.

Arriving back at base, the phone in my pocket vibrates again. After the successful dagger mission, I went for a drink with Maverick to talk through our issues. It’s been sixteen hours since I left Bailey the voicemail. I don’t need to check my phone to know who’s calling. I had eighty missed calls by the time we made it back to Fightertown. I’ve ignored every one. 

She hasn’t left me any messages or texts, which is part of the reason I haven't called. I don't know what to expect, and I'm not emotionally ready for that conversation. It's been taxing enough dealing with Mav. I can't deal with drama from Bailey too.

The text notification beeps, and this time, I pull the phone from my pocket to read; If you’re not dead, answer your damn phone!

I reply, simply saying; I’m okay. Will call you tomorrow.

A call immediately comes through from her number, and I decline it, shutting the phone off before shoving it back in my pocket.

I know I should call her. Reassure her that I am, in fact, okay and explain myself, but honestly, I’m afraid. I need time to let the adrenaline of the mission pass and my nerves settle. I’ll call her tomorrow. Right now, I just want to sleep.

I’m so exhausted, and my body aches more than I knew it possibly could. I open my bedroom door and freeze. Bailey is standing in the middle of the room, her back to me, phone pressed to her ear, a hand tangled in her hair. “...need to hear your voice, just to know you’re really okay. Call me, please.”

I assume she’s leaving me a message after I ditched her call. She hasn’t noticed me yet, so I could turn and run. It’s a fleeting thought that barely forms before I sigh, “shit!”

Stace! I really thought I'd come through this chapters without tears. And I did. Until the very last sentence. This is so beautiful!

They deserve this happy end and all the love in this world ❤️ just like you!

💜❤️‍🔥 those last few lines have been in my head since I first saw the movie and I’d get a bit teary 🥹 eyed every time I thought about it. I basically built a story around it to get the idea to leave my brain 🧠 😂

Anniversary 

Time was supposed to heal all wounds. At least, that’s what people told Roz. Maybe she had misinterpreted it, and they only meant wounds of the flesh. The wounds of the battle had healed, her skin was once again unblemished. But she was still perfectly broken.

Despite the wounds that remained, the day had been a good one.

A somewhat satisfied smile flashed across Nat’s face, which Roz mirrored for a moment. 

“So, that’s it, we’ve done it. The day we fix what Thanos did,” Natasha paused, drawing a breath that made the smile disappear and her eyes drop to the desk. Though they both still believed that day would come, it was the time frame of said day that caused the apprehension. “The nominated representative for that area will know what to do to get the people into accommodation, clothes, food, the basics until more permanent arrangements can be made.”

“I’ve organized quarterly meetings with all the area managers to keep them updated and answer any questions,” Roz said. 

“Great, thank you.”

“Need me for anything else?” Roz asked, hesitantly rising to her feet but hovering before standing completely upright. She had taken on the role of being Natasha’s assistant. Not only to help out as much as she could but because the redhead and the remaining Avengers were her family. 

“No, thanks.” Nat smiled over the top of her laptop. “I’d say go have fun, but y’know.” 

It had been a year to the day Roz had shared her first kiss with Bucky, weeks before Thanos happened. She hadn’t attempted to move on. She had been too busy trying to help fix the world to even contemplate it. 

It wasn’t exactly a celebration or mourning, but she wanted to do something special to remember. Bucky was gone, but Bucky The Donkey still had pride of place on her pillow. She planned to snuggle with him while eating mint chocolate chip ice cream - the same brand Bucky had brought that night - and watch the same movie they had watched. It was bittersweet that she’d actually get to watch it this time. Bucky wasn’t there to distract her.

Nat sighed, and her eyes shimmered with unshed tears. It seemed the tears were a permanent fixture now, though they rarely fell anymore. They were just always there, teetering on the edge. “You sure you don’t want company?” 

“No, thank you.”

“You sure?” said Nat, eyebrows wiggling devilishly, “I might even make out with you.” 

“Oh, well, now that’s on the table, yes please, join me.”

Okay, so Perfectly Broken is one of my favorite series ever, so I’ve been saving its sequel series in my drafts to binge when I can truly appreciate it.

It did not disappoint.

This series has everything, and this first chapter made me feel all of the emotions. The loss of anyone in the snap is so painful, but especially when you watched Bucky and Roz fall in love. The promise he made Steve fulfill is literally the sweetest thing I’ve ever read. But it’s so bittersweet to watch Roz move on. Oof, these two.

Wine drunk Dean Winchester was completely different to whiskey drunk Dean Winchester. He’d always had an insatiable appetite for Quinn, his hands always had to be touching her. But after his dinner of Meatballs in tomato, red wine and basil sauce, mixed with a bottle of very expensive ($150 dollars to be exact) Italian wine, he was a whole new level of insatiable.

They had left the restaurant almost twenty minutes before. The walk to the Impala was short, five minutes even at a slow pace, but they’d barely made it one block. Dean had stopped abruptly, pulled her between two buildings to kiss her breathless, not caring that the alleyway wasn’t all that secluded.

She’d managed to wriggle out his grasp, albeit reluctantly, “come on,” she laughed at his pouting face, “the car isn’t that far away.” She dragged him, pouting, toward the parking lot.

Dean wrapped his arms around her waist while they walked. “I won’t make it back to the bunker,” he whispered against the shell of her ear. “I need you now, sweetheart.”

Like clockwork, as the sun crept over the horizon, Bucky snuck to the garage and rolled his motorbike out, not switching on the engine until he was safely on the road outside of the compound. Tori had been lying in wait on a side street and followed after him, keeping three car lengths back as much as she could.

Bucky’s first stop had been the meat market. Who knew it was open so early? The place was bustling with activity. Before Bucky had switched off his engine, a guy with a blood splattered apron approached him with three large parcels wrapped in newspaper. Money was exchanged, and Bucky hopped off his bike long enough to put the parcels in his backpack before continuing.
