Fairytale Ending - Part 7 - No One's In The Room Mini Series

Series Summary: Jake and Ryleigh find themselves stranded in a remote location when a mission goes sideways. Injured and dependent on his help, she gets a glimpse of the man beneath the façade of ‘The Terminator’. Once they are rescued, the bubble of their personal Vegas bursts, and Jake struggles with new emotions while Ryleigh hopes he will finally see the man she came to know when no one else is in the room.

Summary: Ryleigh and Jake have an opportunity to make things right. Will it be a fairytale ending or not?

Warnings: fluff, angst.

W/C: 2.4k

Characters: Jake ‘ Hangman’ Seresin, Ryleigh ‘Rodeo’, and other OC's.

Pairing: Hangman x OFC.

Pairing: none for part 2.

Graphics: made by me on canva.

Fairytale Ending

As soon as Jake exited the cab, he could hear the squeals of delight from the backyard, and it wasn’t until then he remembered Julia telling him the dance troupe was having a pre-party before the show.

He dumped his bag at the bottom of the stairs, smiling at the loud and proud declarations of a Giant slayed from the yard as he walked through to the kitchen.

Julia, in a huddle with some other parents, noticed him and gasped his name in surprise. “What are you doing here?” she asked, rushing forward to embrace him.

“Couldn’t miss the Munchkin’s recital, could I?” he explained.

He sugar-coated it as being a dutiful uncle, but beneath the sweet topping was the sourness of needing his home comforts. His sister wasn’t clueless to his pretense.

Pulling out of the embrace, she smiled sweetly at him, “Jake…” she started, but he cut her off, unable to stand the pity in her eyes.

“Where is my favorite Munchkin?” he asked, stepping toward the backdoor, freezing when he saw her.

“With your other favorite Munchkin,” Julia whispered, sliding up beside him. Now he understood her cautioning tone and wanted to turn and run before either of them spotted him. For almost two weeks, he’d wanted to speak to Ryleigh, but now she was there, crouching in front of Maddie in a make-believe sword fight, and he was terrified of doing so.

Too Late - Part 6 - No One's In The Room Mini Series

Series Summary: Jake and Ryleigh find themselves stranded in a remote location when a mission goes sideways. Injured and dependent on his help, she gets a glimpse of the man beneath the façade of ‘The Terminator’. Once they are rescued, the bubble of their personal Vegas bursts, and Jake struggles with new emotions while Ryleigh hopes he will finally see the man she came to know when no one else is in the room.

Summary: Jake regrets the things he did and didn’t do. Is he too late to make it right?

Warnings: enemies to lovers, slow burn, fluff, jealousy, angst, Jake is an asshole.

W/C: 2.9k

Characters: Jake ‘ Hangman’ Seresin, Ryleigh ‘Rodeo’, The Dagger Squad, Javy ‘Coyote’ Machado.

Pairing: fwb - Ryleigh x Fanboy mentioned, platonic Rooster x Ryleigh.

Too Late

The Dagger team was close and did a lot of tasks together, including working out. But today, of all days, Jake wished they weren’t as close as they were. Jake, Reuben, and Javy were running on the treadmills when Bradley, Mickey, Natasha, and Bob piled into the gym.

Ryleigh had left the reunion, packed her bags, and gotten on the first plane back to Fightertown. He hadn’t seen or spoken to her in the three days since their disastrous encounter in the parking lot, and he wondered where she was hiding.

“Hey,” Reuben called, smirking and pointing toward Mickey. “Surprised you need a workout, haven’t seen you since your so-called ‘awkward as fuck’ date with Ryleigh,” he said, using full air quotes while he jogged.

Jake scowled, so now he knew where Ryleigh had been. Apparently, she’d run directly from the airport to Mickey. Perhaps it had been a knee-jerk reaction, but they’d been on an actual date, dressed up to the nines, dinner, and conversation, not just falling into bed, from what he'd been overhearing.

About Last Night - Part 5 - No One's In The Room Mini Series

Series Summary: Jake and Ryleigh find themselves stranded in a remote location when a mission goes sideways. Once they are rescued, the bubble of their personal Vegas bursts, and Jake struggles with new emotions while Ryleigh hopes he will finally see the man she came to know when no one else is in the room.

Summary: Jake can’t comprehend why Ryleigh’s so willing to help him - frustrations and mistrust cause an eruption that may cost them their friendship.

Warnings: fluff, angst, Jake is an asshole.

W/C: 2.6k

Characters: Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin, Ryleigh ‘Rodeo’, and other OCs'.

Graphics: made by me on canva.

About Last Night

Going to the airport was always bittersweet for Jake. He looked forward to seeing Maddie and his sister, Julia, but he hated the prospect of seeing his father. Add to that the apprehension of his actions the previous night; he was about ready to curl into the fetal position and never move again.

What the hell had he been thinking? It was as if something had possessed him. The urge to kiss Ryleigh had been almost preternatural. The flashback of the kiss had excitement bubbling in his gut.

He’d been by Ryleigh’s house, but it was locked up tight - no car in the driveway and no lights on. He’d dropped her a text to ask if they could talk when he returned. He was going to apologize and tell her to forget the whole thing. Perhaps blame it on being drunk - though he wasn’t - and lying that her assumption had been correct, he’d struck out, and he had just tried his luck with her. But his phone had remained silent during the forty-five-minute cab ride to the airport.

He rechecked it as he entered the terminal on the off chance he’d missed a vibration. All that greeted him as the screen lit up was his wallpaper and the reminder of his upcoming flight.

“So you’re one of those last-minute people, huh?”

Melted With The Snow

Ryleigh’s leg ached as she awoke, but it was soon forgotten, feeling Jake cocooned around her. His arm rested across her stomach, chest pressed to her back, breath fanning her neck. She’d woken with the thought of needing painkillers, but the steady rhythm of Jake’s breathing and the warmth of his embrace seemed relief enough for the moment.

She timidly shuffled back, pulling his arm up and tighter around her, and even in the midst of sleep, he must have thought she was cold as he tugged the blanket higher and nestled his face into her neck.

She’d seen Jake in many scenarios, and his cocksure smirk was ever-present. Unable to stop herself, she gingerly turned over, careful not to wake him nor put too much pressure on her injury, as she wanted to see what he looked like, relaxed and vulnerable as he slept.

A slight frown creased his brow, “Cold,” he murmured, eyes still firmly shut. Jake smoothly ran his hand over her side tucking it under the other side, and tugged her flush against him. Reflexively she threw her leg over his hip, and slowly his eyes opened. As close as they were, almost nose to nose, she noticed flecks of gold amongst the hazel. He smiled softly in a silent greeting, and she felt her stomach flip.

Vacation Plans

Jake awoke after hearing a crash from the kitchen. He jumped from the bed, feet landing on the cold floor, only then noticing Ryleigh was absent. He rushed to the source of the noise to find her sans pants again, crouching at a very odd angle with her injured leg stretched out to her side, attempting to pick up a gooey mess from the floor.

“What’s going on in here?” he asked.

She paused in her cleaning and looked up at him, “Would you believe me if I said a raccoon got in?”

He laughed, walking closer and taking in the mess. Water leaked from a jug, hitting the floor and mixing with a powder he assumed was pancake mix; chocolate chips spilled from the packet, and possibly every utensil available was lying on the countertop. “It looks like it has.”

Jake held his hand out, and she willingly accepted, allowing him to pull her to her feet. “You made dinner, so I wanted to make you breakfast. But my leg hurts more than I thought it would; I bumped it on a drawer handle and made a mess.”

“Ryleigh,” he scolded, “is it bleeding?” he lifted the hem of the shirt and bent to check. Luckily, her disaster of a breakfast attempt hadn’t opened the stitches. “Sit down. I got this.”

“Have you taken more pills?” he asked once she’d taken a seat at the table, sighing in noticeable relief at taking the weight off her leg.

“Yes, Doctor Seresin,” she snarked with a playful smile.

His mind flashed to her clad in a tight-fitting PVC nurse outfit, but before the image could embarrass him, he winked, drawling, “Good girl.”

Personal Vegas

Jake set the table, including a jug of water and a tumbler of whiskey for himself, leaving the bottle in the middle. Dishing up the chili into bowls, he heard Ryleigh’s stomach grumble and quietly chuckled. She must have been starving for her stomach to be protesting the way it was.

When he’d reappeared from his shower, she was sprawled out on the sofa, features relaxed, a steady rise and fall to her chest as she slept. He hadn’t wanted to disturb her, but she needed to eat and move to the bed, which he assumed would be more comfortable and better for her wound in the long run.

“Ryleigh,” he whispered, gently shaking her shoulder, “wake up. Dinner’s ready.” She shot up so quickly that he had to jump back to avoid headbutting her, her gasp getting lost in the sound of the movement. “Easy, easy,” he soothed, “it’s just me.”

She looked around, eyes finally landing on his face, and she seemed to remember where she was.

“Your stomach has been talking to me for the last ten minutes,” Jake informed her, “wanna eat here or at the table?”

“Table,” she replied, voice still groggy with sleep as she rose to her feet. “Ow, fuck,” she yelped, lifting her weight off her leg, and Jake was quick to take her arm to help steady her.

“Sit down,” he suggested sternly, his arm wrapping around hers and supporting a portion of her weight.

“I can make it,” she protested stubbornly, “I forgot for a second, that’s all.”

He helped her to the table, shaking his head along the way, helping ease her into the chair and making sure she was comfortable before taking his seat across from her.

Jake waited with anticipation, watching as Ryleigh shoveled a spoonful of his Grandma’s special chili into her mouth. He wanted her to like it. He needed her to know he wasn’t the one-dimensional asshole everyone thought he was. Sure, it would be good for his ever-expanding ego, but sometimes it was exhausting to constantly be ‘on’. It was no secret he wanted to impress her, but only enough to get her into his bed, so the need for her to see him differently surprised him. He didn’t have time to put much more thought into the reason behind it before she’d finished savoring the first bite.

  • A Year After The Snap (end of Perfectly Broken)

Time was supposed to heal all wounds. At least, that’s what people told Roz. Maybe she had misinterpreted it, and they only meant wounds of the flesh. The wounds of the battle had healed, her skin was once again unblemished. But she was still perfectly broken.

Despite the wounds that remained, the day had been a good one.

A somewhat satisfied smile flashed across Nat’s face, which Roz mirrored for a moment.

“So, that’s it, we’ve done it. The day we fix what Thanos did,” Natasha paused, drawing a breath that made the smile disappear and her eyes drop to the desk. Though they both still believed that day would come, it was the time frame of said day that caused the apprehension. “The nominated representative for that area will know what to do to get the people into accommodation, clothes, food, the basics until more permanent arrangements can be made.”

“I’ve organized quarterly meetings with all the area managers to keep them updated and answer any questions,” Roz said.

“Great, thank you.”

“Need me for anything else?” Roz asked, hesitantly rising to her feet but hovering before standing completely upright. She had taken on the role of being Natasha’s assistant. Not only to help out as much as she could but because the redhead and the remaining Avengers were her family.

“No, thanks.” Nat smiled over the top of her laptop. “I’d say go have fun, but y’know.”

It had been a year to the day Roz had shared her first kiss with Bucky, weeks before Thanos happened. She hadn’t attempted to move on. She had been too busy trying to help fix the world to even contemplate it.

It wasn’t exactly a celebration or mourning, but she wanted to do something special to remember. Bucky was gone, but Bucky The Donkey still had pride of place on her pillow. She planned to snuggle with him while eating mint chocolate chip ice cream - the same brand Bucky had brought that night - and watch the same movie they had watched. It was bittersweet that she’d actually get to watch it this time. Bucky wasn’t there to distract her.

Nat sighed, and her eyes shimmered with unshed tears. It seemed the tears were a permanent fixture now, though they rarely fell anymore. They were just always there, teetering on the edge. “You sure you don’t want company?”

“No, thank you.”

“You sure?” said Nat, eyebrows wiggling devilishly, “I might even make out with you.”

“Oh, well, now that’s on the table, yes please, join me.”

Okay, so Perfectly Broken is one of my favorite series ever, so I’ve been saving its sequel series in my drafts to binge when I can truly appreciate it.

It did not disappoint.

This series has everything, and this first chapter made me feel all of the emotions. The loss of anyone in the snap is so painful, but especially when you watched Bucky and Roz fall in love. The promise he made Steve fulfill is literally the sweetest thing I’ve ever read. But it’s so bittersweet to watch Roz move on. Oof, these two.

Emily knew Dean heard her sneakers squeak on the tiled floor before she appeared in his peripheral vision. She stopped dead in her tracks and then turned to go back the way she’d come from.

“You can’t do that,” he called before she managed to take a complete step.

She stopped again, head tilted to the ceiling, her shoulders dropped with her heavy sigh. She peeked over her shoulder, “Can’t do what?”

“Avoid me,” he said, without looking up from the laptop set on the table in front of him. “Sam noticed the other day, and he’ll notice again.” He waited a moment for her to realize he was right. “He’s not here, by the way. It’s safe to be in my presence.”
