Chapter Ten

“I’ve gotta go, Y/N, I’ll see you,” Dean calls into the bathroom through the closed door separating you. He sounds panicked, but that’s not much new for him. Although he seemed to be getting better with the whole guilty conscience of sleeping with his brother’s girlfriend, this is the first time he has initiated it, and maybe that’s playing on his mind now. Until now he’d given in to you, he’d fought at first before succumbing, which was a world away from turning up on your doorstep, looking for sex with you. There was a line there before, but he’s crossed it now and there was no going back from that. It did seem a little odd that he would come here, start something with you all of a sudden, when you’d had to try so hard to seduce him before now. But maybe your tricks are finally working. Maybe he has finally been caught. You are practically an expert at getting men to fall in love with you, so it was only a matter of time. The poor Winchester brothers stood no chance, really.

“Dean, hey,” Sam rolls to his side before sitting up. He pushes the dishevelled hair out of his face and reaches down on the floor for his boxers as he traps his cell between his shoulder and his ear to pull them on. “Yeah? Congrats man, that Singer case is a pretty big deal,” Sam continues, raising to his feet. Your interest is piqued as you roll to your side to face him, and try desperately to listen to Dean’s side of the conversation. You had a feeling Dean would get Bobby’s case since they had reopened it. You know now, more than ever, you need to get close to him, find out what he knows, maybe you’ll have to abort all your plans here and go on the run again. Another fake name, another makeover. Apparently, Italy is nice this time of year. You’ve not been in a long while. You sit up, peeling the covers off of your naked body before searching for your own underwear.

Dean’s glad Y/N chose The Devil’s Trap to meet, it was one of the more inconspicuous bars in the area and nobody would bat an eyelid at him slumped over the bar, head in a glass of whiskey. Predominantly home to bikers, The Trap is a dive but Dean found himself in here more nights than he cares to admit. The barmaid he nailed a couple of months back quit so he’s thankful he doesn’t have to make awkward small talk with the woman that begged him to fuck her in the ass. 

The past week had dragged slowly, the unease thick in his stomach growing denser as the days ticked by. He could tell by her response the week before that she thought it was going to be a social call but Dean needed to know about her past. Why didn’t she exist before two years ago? 

The shrill ringtone of his cell breaks through the cloud of thoughts and Dean glances down at the name flashing brightly back at him. 

“Hey man, what’s up?”

“You’re in, boss says you’re on the case.” Garth’s high-pitched tone replies. Dean had been battling with Assistant Director Collins all week for this and finally he’s getting his wish. “Bobby’s files are on your desk ready and waiting for you Monday morning.”

Two years earlier.

The bar is dark, quiet and, much to Dean’s happiness, everybody keeps to their own business. Alone with his whiskey, he can muse over his latest case in peace without the worry of trying to entertain. When he joined the Bureau, the ideology of catching women much like the slut who had murdered John kept him sharp and focused but as he got older and became a field agent, the horrors people inflicted up others soon started to gnaw away at his soul. It began to keep him awake at night, tossing and turning through nightmares when he did drift off for ten, fifteen minutes at a time. He soon turned to alcohol his way of coping and if he was lucky, after sinking his weight in booze, managed to sleep uninterrupted for three or four hours at best.

Frustration sitting thick in his chest, anger eats at him due to the lack of closure of what should be an open and shut. Dean always told himself not to become personally affected by a case but after the circumstances mirror that of his father’s, he can’t help himself from falling victim to his own feelings.

“Either you’re drowning your sorrows or you really like the taste of that gasoline,” a soft voice from behind him says quietly. Turning his head to tell the owner of the voice that he’s not looking for a drinking partner tonight, his eyes land on her and immediately swallows his words. The woman stood before him is gorgeous, a small sympathetic grin across her lips. Body in complete proportion; her curves in all the right places and smile that could kill, Dean struggles to maintain a stoic expression. If he wasn’t so pissed off, so deeply self-involved in his own woefulness, he probably would have noticed her sitting in the darkest corner of the bar, casually sipping her glass of wine. He would’ve been offering to buy her breakfast at first sight of her.

“Hm, bit of both,” he replies deeply, taking a last sip of his whiskey. Now he thinks about it, the lasting taste on his tongue does resemble it slightly and coughs the liquid down.

“Rough day?” She asks, slipping onto the bar stool next to him.

“You could say that.”

“Then you’re gonna need something a little better to drink than that lighter fluid,” she smiles, lifting her hand to get the attention of the barman. “Two of your finest please.” She orders, sliding a $100 across the worn wood.
