Lockdown restrictions eased somewhat. No one was allowed to return to work, and only essential shops were allowed to remain open, but three households, up to a maximum of six people, were allowed to mingle. The whole thing had stretched longer than anyone anticipated, but Chris couldn’t have been happier about the downtime. It meant he got to spend time with Sienna.
They walked Dodger together twice a day, took it in turns to cook dinner, had movie nights, or Sienna did a jigsaw puzzle while Chris played the piano, taking requests for whatever song she wanted to hear. But, no matter how many different songs Chris played, her favorite remained Purple Rain.
The days were filled with activities or relaxing, and Chris couldn’t remember a time when he’d had the chance to be bored. When the weather was kind to them, and it meant they could laze by his pool, Chris thanked his lucky stars. Sienna in a swimsuit, skin sparkling with the mixture of sunscreen and water, was a vision he wasn’t likely ever to forget.
When the evenings got a little cooler, they started a mini book club. After a particularly long day decorating her bedroom, they’d cleaned up, ordered pizza, and settled in for the night to watch a movie on her couch.
Dodger curled up at her side, and while stroking the dog, Sienna hadn’t been able to keep her eyes open. She’d seen the first thirty minutes of the movie and then fallen asleep with the warmth of the dog pressed against her leg.
