Stay In The Car

Bucky had tried to keep his distance, he really had. He’d stopped himself, a million times or more, from calling or texting Roz. Steve had talked him down from flying to Wakanda. Nat had assured him Roz was checking in every day and that she seemed ‘okay’. Roz had never just been ‘okay’; she was either happy and vibrant or sad and dull, there had never been an inbetween with her. So just okay probably meant she was simply saying it to appease Nat.

He didn’t know what the need for Roz to be in Wakanda was, Natasha had kept the details a strictly need to know basis. Though he suspected it had nothing to do with work and everything to do with Wyatt. Why else would she go home and then cut her trip short to run to Wakanda?

Try as he might to give Roz space, he couldn’t. It had been a week and a half since she’d left. He’d distracted himself, kept as busy as he could until he could collapse into bed at night. He’d wake from a nightmare and reach out into the empty cold space beside him before he’d remember she wasn’t there.

Thing one: I formally take back every nice thought I had about her marriage, because ugh, what kind of man leaves her like that. I mean, obviously, I'm team Bucky, but do it with a little love, dude.

Thing two: The fact that she went to Wakanda when she was at rock bottom is so perfect and full circle. Steve coming to get her instead of Bucky was also brilliant. She needs to come back on her own terms.

Thing three: YAY, THEY'RE HAPPY. I've waited so long for this, and it was perfect, Sam jokes and all. They deserve this and I love this whole series. Amazing job, Stace. I'm going to love rereading these ones over and over.

Part 2 -  He stepped aside and motioned for her to enter, silently praying something significant had changed about her. Anything to make him not love her the way he did.

Yesterday

Roz kept her eyes on the slightly ajar door. How many times had she sat where she was now, cross legged in the middle of Bucky’s bed, and imagined a million scenarios of him walking through it. A tearful but hot and heavy reunion that would last days, neither one willing to move from the bed. The tears had been accurate, on her part at least. The hot and heavy was no longer an option.

Bucky had invited her in but then insisted on getting snacks and beverages. It wasn’t a bad idea, it would probably be a long conversation, they’d need the fuel. But she suspected Bucky needed a minute to compose himself, she had kind of ambushed him. Her eyes remained glued to the door, a dark part of her not quite believing he was back. Maybe she had dreamt all of it, it certainly wouldn’t have been the first time.

The relief she felt when he appeared, with his arms overloaded with snacks, was almost embarrassing. He dropped the bags of chips, bottles of water, fruit and chocolate onto the bed and smiled down at her.

“I bought a bit of everything,” he shrugged and his smile seemed shy. “I didn’t know what you’d want or liked.”

“I like all the same stuff,” she chuckled, “nothing’s changed.”

“Everything’s changed,” Bucky sighed heavily and she had to look away when he raked a hand down his face. He wasn’t talking about her eating habits anymore. “I woke up next to you yesterday. I wake up today and you’re married.”

You know, Bucky and Roz are soulmates and this chapter proves it. They need each other, and they can find a way to be in each other’s lives, no matter what. It’s such a beautiful dynamic, and I love it so much. But, I hate to see them both struggling. They’re trying to navigate something unnavigable, like you can see at the end of the chapter, but there’s only one chapter left, so I know they’ll figure it out.

The Lake House

The crisp mountain air invigorated Roz as it did every morning when she stepped out onto the porch. She inhaled deeply, the fresh air was tinged with a hint of caramel syrup that she’d added to the coffee she carried. She settled into the handmade wooden swing at the back of the cabin and took in the vastness of the lake. Under the moody sky, the lake looked dull and grey, but made it no less beautiful.

Birds sang in the forest to her left, long accustomed to Wyatt’s buzz saw whizzing behind the closed doors of his workshop a few hundred feet to her right. The creatures had not had much of a choice. With the help of Steve, Tony, Nat and Clint, Wyatt had built the cabin from the ground up. A buzz saw was mild compared to the machinery they had used to erect the home.

“Different,” she said with a small smile, raising her mug in a toast toward the water. It had become a daily routine soon after they’d moved in. A mantra when she was alone to remind her of the life she had chosen, not settled for.

The rolling clouds were ominous. A rumble of thunder in the far off distance seemed to sound just as her eyes reached the horizon. The clouds moved too fast for her to have to worry about a storm forcing her inside, but something about it all appeared familiar. As if she’d heard that particular rumble and seen those clouds before.

You know, I little bit hate that I actually like the life she built. I know it won’t last because, obviously, Bucky, but it seemed so peaceful and loving at the lake house.

And I love how you kept Nat and Steve in the story, as it should be. They’re so important to Roz especially that the loss would be devastating. Especially now that Bucky is back, she needs their support.

Bucky is back! They can figure it out and rebuild. I know they can.

Anniversary 

Time was supposed to heal all wounds. At least, that’s what people told Roz. Maybe she had misinterpreted it, and they only meant wounds of the flesh. The wounds of the battle had healed, her skin was once again unblemished. But she was still perfectly broken.

Despite the wounds that remained, the day had been a good one.

A somewhat satisfied smile flashed across Nat’s face, which Roz mirrored for a moment. 

“So, that’s it, we’ve done it. The day we fix what Thanos did,” Natasha paused, drawing a breath that made the smile disappear and her eyes drop to the desk. Though they both still believed that day would come, it was the time frame of said day that caused the apprehension. “The nominated representative for that area will know what to do to get the people into accommodation, clothes, food, the basics until more permanent arrangements can be made.”

“I’ve organized quarterly meetings with all the area managers to keep them updated and answer any questions,” Roz said. 

“Great, thank you.”

“Need me for anything else?” Roz asked, hesitantly rising to her feet but hovering before standing completely upright. She had taken on the role of being Natasha’s assistant. Not only to help out as much as she could but because the redhead and the remaining Avengers were her family. 

“No, thanks.” Nat smiled over the top of her laptop. “I’d say go have fun, but y’know.” 

It had been a year to the day Roz had shared her first kiss with Bucky, weeks before Thanos happened. She hadn’t attempted to move on. She had been too busy trying to help fix the world to even contemplate it. 

It wasn’t exactly a celebration or mourning, but she wanted to do something special to remember. Bucky was gone, but Bucky The Donkey still had pride of place on her pillow. She planned to snuggle with him while eating mint chocolate chip ice cream - the same brand Bucky had brought that night - and watch the same movie they had watched. It was bittersweet that she’d actually get to watch it this time. Bucky wasn’t there to distract her.

Nat sighed, and her eyes shimmered with unshed tears. It seemed the tears were a permanent fixture now, though they rarely fell anymore. They were just always there, teetering on the edge. “You sure you don’t want company?” 

“No, thank you.”

“You sure?” said Nat, eyebrows wiggling devilishly, “I might even make out with you.” 

“Oh, well, now that’s on the table, yes please, join me.”

Okay, so Perfectly Broken is one of my favorite series ever, so I’ve been saving its sequel series in my drafts to binge when I can truly appreciate it.

It did not disappoint.

This series has everything, and this first chapter made me feel all of the emotions. The loss of anyone in the snap is so painful, but especially when you watched Bucky and Roz fall in love. The promise he made Steve fulfill is literally the sweetest thing I’ve ever read. But it’s so bittersweet to watch Roz move on. Oof, these two.

“Maverick.”

He pressed his lips into a thin line. “With all due respect, Maverick, I think it would be best if we had you out in public as little as possible. Makes my job easier, which generally makes me easier to be around.”

“So I’m supposed to just hole up in this office until the expo is over?” Maverick frowned.

“Of course not. I know you’re going to have to be in public from time to time, but if we can minimize that, we minimize the chance of a threat becoming a reality.” He drew in a breath. “Let me tell you how this works. You do what you need to do, but outside of that, I call the shots. All communications go through me before they get to you. If I think there’s a threat, no matter what you think you need to do, you do what I tell you until the threat is cleared.”

She snorted. “I thought Pepper said I was getting a bodyguard, not a prison warden.”

Bucky stood firm. “It’s my job to keep you alive. I won’t tell you how to do all this tech shit, you don’t tell me how to be a bodyguard. Ms. Potts trusted me to watch out for you, maybe you should take that for what it’s worth.”

The apartment Bucky shared with Tori wasn’t big but it was enough for the two of them, and he loved every square inch of it because it was theirs. They’d been living together - just the two of them - for three months. It had taken some getting used to, learning each other’s habits and quirks, but they set some ground rules early on and it had been smooth sailing from there on in.

But today, he paced the length of the hallway nervously. He had technically broken one of the rules. He’d made a decision that affected them both, without first discussing it with her. She had warned him that his soft gooey center would get the better of him but he’d brushed off the comment without further thought. 

Today proved she’d been right. His soft gooey center had, in fact, taken the reins and now he was nervously pacing his apartment waiting for Tori to get home. He planned to intercept her arrival and butter her up as best he could before she discovered his rule-breaking on her own.

He heard her keys jingle outside the door and he rushed to open it before she could insert it into the lock.

“Wooooo,” Tori said, smirking at his abrupt appearance, “where’s the fire?”

“No fire,” he confirmed, ushering her inside.

She eyed him suspiciously but crossed the threshold and placed a kiss on his lips. “You look nervous.” 

He shrugged but didn’t comment further as he closed the door. He rushed to pass her as she removed her jacket and toed off her shoes. “How was your day?” he asked when he heard her follow him toward the kitchen.

My emotions are currently at war, because on one hand, I’m like “Oh my GOSH, he’s so sweet and adorable and I want this,” but on the other hand, I’m like “Oh my GOSH, poor Buck, he’s been through so much trauma that relates to this dog, I’m going to cry.”

Long story short, I loved this, and it was the perfect companion piece in their relationship. AND, I adored that hysterical ending.

Stalking, or rather following, the Winter Soldier shouldn’t have been as easy as it was. However, Tori was proud of herself for remaining unseen for the better part of an hour. 

Bucky had been sneaking out of the compound every morning at dawn for almost a month now. At first, she thought he was going for an early morning jog, but when she’d asked if she could join him, he’d stuttered over a polite rejection. It only raised her suspicions. She tried to coax more information from the very guarded super soldier, and she was certain, had it not been for Sam commenting on their whispering and longing looks, he’d have told her. But Sam Wilson’s big mouth had made Bucky close off that little bit extra, and he’d then proceeded to avoid being alone with her. 

So, her only option had been to stalk him. 

Like clockwork, as the sun crept over the horizon, Bucky snuck to the garage and rolled his motorbike out, not switching on the engine until he was safely on the road outside of the compound. Tori had been lying in wait on a side street and followed after him, keeping three car lengths back as much as she could.

Bucky’s first stop had been the meat market. Who knew it was open so early? The place was bustling with activity. Before Bucky had switched off his engine, a guy with a blood splattered apron approached him with three large parcels wrapped in newspaper. Money was exchanged, and Bucky hopped off his bike long enough to put the parcels in his backpack before continuing.

Central Park was crowded; people taking a leisurely stroll, dog walkers, joggers, kids playing, couples and friends having picnics, a news anchor and her crew seemingly reporting on the budding flowers. Liv was already nervous, but the thousands of eyes made her more so.

She knew they weren’t looking at her, but it felt like it. She was alone on a bench, and her make-up was a tad heavier than what someone would typically wear to walk around the park. Her jeans were casual, but the ocean blue sweater and accompanying leather jacket seemed to scream, ‘I’m meeting my date here.’ 

Okay, the outfit did nothing of the sort. She could simply be waiting for a friend. But she couldn’t help feeling that her fidgeting and checking her phone every ten seconds gave her away. She may as well have been holding up a neon sign that said, ‘I’ve been stood up.’

Her phone vibrated in her hand and a bubble of excitement zipped across her stomach. That excitement quickly fizzled to disappointment when she saw the caller ID. She answered her phone with a sigh.

This is honestly one of the cutest stories I have ever read. The way you structured it was so unique and fun that it pulled me right in. I absolutely love the way they fell for each other in two different ways, and Bucky was insanely charming. That shirt move? Smooth.

By the way, I’m pretty sure I’d die if Bucky flirted with me on the phone like that. All his messages too? Adorable. You captured what a complete dork he is and that’s amazing! Totally making me fall for him, and I’m loving Liv too. This was 12/10 incredible and one I’ll for sure be rereading over and over.

Stalking, or rather following, the Winter Soldier shouldn’t have been as easy as it was. However, Tori was proud of herself for remaining unseen for the better part of an hour. 

Bucky had been sneaking out of the compound every morning at dusk for almost a month now. At first, she thought he was going for an early morning jog, but when she’d asked if she could join him, he’d stuttered over a polite rejection. It only raised her suspicions. She tried to coax more information from the very guarded super soldier, and she was certain, had it not been for Sam commenting on their whispering and longing looks, he’d have told her. But Sam Wilson’s big mouth had made Bucky close off that little bit extra, and he’d then proceeded to avoid being alone with her. 

So, her only option had been to stalk him. 

Like clockwork, as the sun crept over the horizon, Bucky snuck to the garage and rolled his motorbike out, not switching on the engine until he was safely on the road outside of the compound. Tori had been lying in wait on a side street and followed after him, keeping three car lengths back as much as she could.

Bucky’s first stop had been the meat market. Who knew it was open so early? The place was bustling with activity. Before Bucky had switched off his engine, a guy with a blood splattered apron approached him with three large parcels wrapped in newspaper. Money was exchanged, and Bucky hopped off his bike long enough to put the parcels in his backpack before continuing.

This was absolutely precious, in the best possible way. I loved the premise, because it was fun and unique, but it had this underlying depth and emotion to it that just called out to me. The way you picked a wolf and incorporated the snap just made it all so perfect for Bucky and his character. Plus, I love all of the humor you sprinkle into your stories! That “I hope he eats you” part was the best way to break up that moment without detracting from the humanity of it. A perfect, layered fluff fic!

Now. 

Roz bolted up in bed. The images were forgotten as soon as her eyes scoured the corners of the room, but the fear and desperation the nightmare had conjured remained.

She buried her face in her hands and focused on breathing in and out. That was all she allowed herself to think about right now, slow and steady breaths. The bed shifted under the weight of Bucky turning on to his back. His fingers caressed her back, drawing letters on her skin. She hadn’t quite figured it out yet, but she was sure he spelled out his name or wrote I love you. 

“I thought the simulations had gotten rid of the nightmares,” he whispered.

She could hear the sadness in his voice and she had thought the same. Or at least, she’d hoped that had been the case when she’d had three consecutive nights without nightmares. 

“It’s only been a couple of days,” she sighed in explanation, more to herself than him, perhaps. His fingers returned to her back to write another silent statement. “I thought of another one. Another scenario.”

Bucky sat up and kissed her shoulder. He left his lips pressed to her skin while he spoke. “You want to go now or wait until morning?”

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo

I should’ve seen this coming, that stupid movie! I hate this for them. HE PROMISED FOREVER. It’s okay, Amanda, it’s okay. Everything will be fixed and they’ll be together again because they’re just so perfect, and I can’t, okay? I have the sads….

My poor babies. I love this series so much. If you ever wanted to write a follow-up where they get reunited and live happily ever after, I wouldn’t say no, k? K.

Bucky held Roz’s hips with a tight grip while he swirled his own in small circles beneath her, and she matched his movement. One of her hands rested on his chest and the other on his leg behind her to support her arched back, her chin tipped to the ceiling.

She was exquisite, her skin flushed with heat, the edges of her hair curled with sweat. With her eyes closed and lips slightly parted - in between whimpered moans and his name exhaled in breathless worship - she looked as if she were in silent prayer to the gods above.

Dang, girl, I can’t believe this is your first Bucky fic! He’s on point, especially with that trademarked guilt. I know who I’m coming to for help when I start writing him.

But, oh my goodness, this was fantastic. The smut at the beginning, the intense drama, the angst. It was like an adrenaline ride, and it was so well written and detailed that it felt like I was really there. I could feel their love through your writing, even without having seen their relationship progress at all. I’m all kinds of in love with this!
