This gif pretty perfectly expresses how I think Dean's feeling in this series, so far. A little confused, surprised, and not at all happy about what's happening in his life. See, he's been a bit of a workaholic, neglecting his wife and child while chasing down the bad guys. He thought everything was fine until his wife told him it wasn't. Now, he's got a serial killer to find, family issues to solve, and Part 3 introduces some potential work issues, as well. (Crowley is an excellent choice to add some spice to this story!!)

It's still early on, so we haven't gotten enough bread crumbs --or red herrings-- to make guesses about what will happen in this series. We can only hope we get some Dad!Dean with little Bobby John being adorable! Oh, and there's a warning for smut, so we have that to look forward to, also. And maybe some fluffy romantic Dean along the way as he tries to win back his wife?

In conclusion, this series could go a bunch of different ways, but all of them have enormous potential!

Summary: Dean Winchester is an addict and an alcoholic, a USMC veteran, a father, and an older brother. As Battalion Chief with Lawrence Fire & Medical, Dean comes under investigation when he makes a dangerous and impulsive decision, defying his superiors and abandoning the team he is supposed to lead. He is given the choice to go to rehab for 28 days, or jail. His lawyer insists on rehab, and Dean begrudgingly abides.

Sam has been struggling with depression since Stanford. Well, not really struggling. Excelling. He’s been excelling at depression since Stanford, and it’s only gotten worse since he started hunting again. Unfortunately, the relapses from John’s death and Dean’s trip to Hell were bad, but they had nothing on the downward spiral triggered by Sam starting the Apocalypse.

But Sam has never come clean before, and he isn’t about to start. He’s self-medicating, he’s suppressing, and he’s handling things in the Trademark Winchester Way. He can do this. He can totally do this.

Before I go any further with this, I’m gonna say, right up front, HEED THE WARNINGS. Although the subject matter is handled awesomely, if anything in the warnings is a trigger for you, PLEASE protect yourself above reading something just because we say it’s awesome!

The subject matter is a serious one, and it’s handled seriously. Sam’s depressed. More depressed than in canon, but it’s really not that far off from what we could imagine Sam dealing with in the early seasons. His family deals with it about well as you would expect in the beginning. You get an inside look at what Sam’s thinking vs. what Sam’s saying and doing and it’s SO REAL.

As it all just gets worse and worse, though, the story turns away from canon and does what the show could never do: it let the characters see what was wrong and work to fix it. And it’s so cathartic to read!! The entire second half brings back all the light that the first half takes away. 

It’s 42k thousand words, so it’s not short, but nothing shorter could do the subject justice. Give it a read and let us know what you think!

The steady beeping became annoying. Izzie groaned, too tired to roll over and try to find the off switch to whatever it was. Dean would do it shortly, she was sure of it.

Dean.

Her eyelids were weighted, too heavy to open and she grumbled again. Surely if Dean were nearby, he’d hear her and be at her side in an instant. She smelled the undeniable aroma of a hospital and the panic set in so hard she gasped as her eyes sprung open.

She tried to sit up. It was a mistake. White-hot pain shot through her leg and ribs simultaneously. She cried out into the empty room. The heart monitor she was attached to beeped in time with her pained rhythm. Her ribs were broken; her casted left leg was obviously broken, too.
