Now

The red and blue lights flooded the neighborhood, illuminating a small crowd. Dean sped down the street, ignoring the four police officers, who all turned to scowl at the speeding vehicle.

“Oh, shit,” said Brooke, on the edge of the back seat to better see between the brothers.

The flames that had drawn the residents from their homes had been doused. However, a handful of her neighbors still milled about, pointing fingers and whispering to each other about the continuing activity on the usually quiet street.

The Impala rolled up at the curb, and Brooke was on the sidewalk, racing blindly toward the police line tape before it came to a complete stop.

“Let me through,” she demanded, struggling against the officer who attempted to restrain her. “It’s my house! Let me through!”

Brett’s familiar bellow broke through the scuffle, and the officers released her under his command. She ran to him, tears staining her cheeks, and as soon as her brother’s arms embraced her, she broke down. He pulled her tight to his chest, and she sobbed into him while he apologized. “The fire spread too fast. It was out of control before help arrived. They couldn’t save anything.”

Oh my God, waiting for Rowena to drag her story out was painful, but it all now clicks into place (I love her lol)!! I cannot wait to see Brooke get her memories back...

She loves the theatrics of it all 😝

Then

Taking Dean’s advice to go and see Brooke proved to be a mistake. She hadn’t been home when Sam arrived just after eight-thirty. Her car was in the driveway, but his knock went unanswered. The place was shrouded in darkness with no sign of life inside. He had driven around town, visited all the places he knew she frequented, and finally found her. Though, finding her hadn’t brought him the answers he had hoped it would.

He had an unobstructed view of her on the other side of the room from where he sat in a booth at the back of the diner. Brooke looked good, healthy, and in high spirits. That much was a relief. Everything else he’d witnessed was the opposite. He’d seen every flirtatious smile she gave to the guy sitting across from her and felt his skin burn when she put her hand over a hand that didn’t belong to him.

From the partial view he had of her date, Sam could see that this new man was almost his opposite. He was just as tall and broad-shouldered, but his blond hair was cropped close and shaved neatly at the sides. He wore casual but obviously expensive clothes and a large, gaudy gold watch that reflected the fluorescent light every time he moved.

Anger bubbled inside of Sam, and he contemplated marching over and confronting the pair. Brooke owed him an explanation, or at the very least, the opportunity to understand what the hell had happened in the time he’d been gone. But the family diner wasn’t the place for a fight, and he’d been too worked up to trust himself to manage an adult discussion. Brooke had told him she was falling for him, practically told him she was in love with him, and now she was on a date with some random guy. He didn’t know how else to feel other than angry and hurt.

The darkest hour -- the angst of her nearly leaving the bunker had me on the edge of my seat, but now with them finally getting a hint on the problem and that cliffhanger, I'm just WAITING for them to find Tommy and end that bastard. But idk, I know I haven't mentioned it before, but Emily has also giving me vibes for some time now. I'm wondering if she's involved somehow, with the way she left her there at the bar to begin with, and certain things she's done after...

I’m glad you picked up on all the little clues sprinkled in 💜

“I know other people that can handle this kind of thing. They can take the case,” said Sam. “They’ll be fine without me. I don’t have to go.”

“Yes, you do,” said Brooke, packing Sam’s folded t-shirts into the bag that lay open on the bed. “And if you don’t go, you’re no longer welcome to stay here.”

Sam scowled, though it went unnoticed, as she stepped into the closet. He took the t-shirts from the bag and returned them to his drawer. “I’ll sleep in my car outside,” he said matter-of-factly. “Makes no difference to me. But I’m not leaving you alone.”

“I’m not alone!” She groaned, then murmured, “I wish,” under her breath, though Sam still heard her. She gestured toward the window. “There are two cops on me at all times. My mom calls me several times a day. I swear Brett has my phone tapped, and Emily is my shadow when you’re not around.” She took her frustration out on the plaid shirts she’d pulled from the closet, folding them aggressively and shoving them into the bag. “I don’t remember what being alone feels like.”

When she turned back toward the closet, presumably to find more of Sam’s clothes to abuse, he blocked her path. “So I really have outstayed my welcome?”

How did Brooke always attract the asshole? Why was it always her?

The answer usually involved her friend, Emily.

The most recent douchebag to be caught in Brooke’s inexplicable ’asshole-tractor-beam’, Tommy, currently sat a little too close to her. He hadn’t wasted any time in occupying Emily’s vacated seat beside her at the bar. It was probably still warm when Tommy had invited himself to refill it. In the - she checked her watch - forty minutes that she had been stranded with the jerk, she realized that her problem was that she was just too nice to tell him to fuck off.

Tommy was tall, casually well-dressed, broad-shouldered, and had a nice smile. He would have totally been Brooke’s type if he hadn’t been so persistent. Otherwise, she might have thought he was a decent-looking, genuine guy.

She would have been wrong. He was completely self-centered, talking only about himself and ignoring everything Brooke said. He hadn’t even acknowledged her when she told him she needed to use the bathroom. He’d just kept talking as though he expected her to put off her basic human needs to listen to him.

He was obnoxious, but the ominous feeling she was wrestling with now hadn’t started to grow until Tommy had become increasingly insistent that Brooke spend the night with him. His eyes turned colder every time she tried to brush him off, and the smile he’d donned when he first sat with her had long since gone serpentine. There was a difference in his demeanor, and she was starting to suspect that something terrible might happen to her if she refused.

Eventually, Brooke agreed to go home with Tommy so he’d shut up long enough for her to use the bathroom before they left. She had no intention of leaving with him. Her plan was to sneak out the bathroom window, go to her car, and split.

Aw this is amazing so far! I love how strong and intelligent Brooke is, and how well you've captured Sam and his emotional turmoil in this. The situation truly is gutting, but if we as readers didn't know Sam so well, we'd be on Brooke's side lol. 😂 I'm so excited to see where you take this next, and why exactly she's lost her memories of Sam! 💜

Thank you 💜

I hated putting Sam through this but he’s just so pretty when he’s sad 😢

Now

The Winchester Brothers were predisposed to questionable decisions. They were born from questionable decision-making stock. Take Mary Winchester and her deal with Yellow Eyes, for example. Or John Winchester and his deal with Yellow Eyes, for that matter. But Sam kidnapping a woman - a very human, non-supernatural woman - from an apple pie suburban neighborhood at eleven-thirty on a Wednesday night was firmly in the top ten on Dean's 'Sam Did a Bad Thing' list, and he'd been very vocal in expressing his feelings on the matter.

“This is fucking bad, Sam,” Dean told him for the hundredth time.

Sam knew that. He was acutely aware that casting a sleeping spell on a woman was a Bad Thing. He knew it was even worse that he’d literally dragged said sleeping woman into his car and currently had her in his bed. The situation had quickly spun out of control, and he hadn’t been able to rein in his emotions long enough to think rationally, but there was no going back now.

Dean paced the corridor outside Sam’s closed bedroom door and, rather unnecessarily, continued to lecture his younger brother. “You get that this is beyond screwed up, right?” Dean took a deep breath but didn’t pause long enough for Sam to answer. “You’ve practically kidnapped the daughter of a police chief. Hell, there’s no ‘practically’ about it. Sam, you kidnapped...” he drawled the word, pronouncing every syllable precisely, “...the daughter of a goddamn cop!”

Had Sam not been on the verge of freaking out, he’d have rolled his eyes. Dean was talking to him as if he hadn’t been the one to knock her out with a sleep spell and bundle her into the back of his car.

“I know, Dean!”

He didn’t need the glaringly obvious stated; he needed help. He needed his big brother, his hunting partner. He needed Dean to stop lecturing him and help him work the case. And Sam was convinced there was a case. He just needed his brother to sign on and be the level-headed one. Funny how those shifts in dynamic seemed to sneak up on them in times like these.

Oh damn. Just, hold on-

Okay, so. Tommy infiltrated Emily? Presented this nice guy persona to get her to divulge info on Brooke? On the one hand, that's on him. On the other, Emily, come on, you just don't do that!!!

So, he was fueled not only by Emily's encouragement, but also a magical being Malikai who wanted to create a headache for Rowena. There's a lesson here, about who we choose to cohort with, I swear. I knew, I just knew he was a slime ball!! Unable to do this much damage on his own!!

Let's get Brooke back her memories!! 👏🏽👏🏽 And dig that six foot hole in the backyard for Tommy!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

He is a slime ball incapable of causing all this trouble on his own, you were right!! 😜👏🏻 Emily’s heart was in the right place, but that clearly meant her logic wasn’t 😂

While there isn’t a six foot hole waiting for Tommy, I think you’ll find his consequences are a satisfying end 😘

I'm so happy they finally found the source of her Samnesia!! Things were looking pretty grim there. Their conversation in the kitchen had me near tears!!

“Should I pretend I don’t remember you? The time before and the last two weeks? Should I just forget you?”

Ouch, ouch, ouch!!! Sam was lashing out, I get it, but that still hurt.

Has Tommy become desperate in trying to lure her out? Has this been Tommy on his own from the beginning?? Doesn't strike me as the kind of guy to concoct all of this on his own...

Also it has just occurred to me that we won't have any more Then scenes as we're all caught up right? That makes me so sad!!

Finally!! They figured it out 🥳

The kitchen conversation kinda broke me to write, not gonna lie.

Is Tommy luring her out or is it something else?! Who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️

You are all caught up, there’s no more “then”, but there is some fluff coming up, I promise 😘

In the middle of going "awwwwww" from those voicemails (they were hilarious and adorable!!!) I busted out laughing at this:

Mood immensely improved, he changed into his running attire, snapped a picture of Dean’s drooling face for ammunition should he ever need some later on, and left for his run.

So, of course, the next scene would be like bearing witness to a horrible crash! AND I'M OVER HERE LIKE:

Ohhhhhhhh that slime ball!!!!!! Poor Sam! Poor Brooke!!

THEY WERE SO HAPPY! EVEN WHEN THEY WERE DRIVING EACH OTHER CRAZY THEY WERE HAPPY!!! 😭😭😭

They were happy, you’re almost at the end so maaaaaybe they can be again 😘

Then

I love your writing, I swear. Your characters are always so tangible, three-dimensional; I can easily visualize every scene like I'm a fly on the wall.

Their first meeting is the best, amusingly unconventional and amplified x5k with that beautiful pic by @slytherkins. 💓 Brooke seeking refuge in the Impala was a thrill to read because, it's an intimate space for the boys. The Impala is their home and not only did Sam invite her in, he offered to take her home and that's - it's a level of vulnerability and trust for both of them.

And I'm enjoying these little pieces you give:

Sam reached his arms over his head as he stood to stretch his back and shoulders. Although the couch had been comfortable, he must have slept in the same position all night, and his neck cracked audibly as his head rolled from side to side. He lowered his arms, and his gaze drifted down to find Brooke staring at him

She was leaning against the door frame, coffee mug in hand, seeming to enjoy the view of his stomach where his shirt had ridden up.

Because that view of his stomach is exactly where my mind went, so thank you.🥰

“Sam,” he offered, averting his gaze to hide the pain that shot through him. She’d said his name in so many ways: sighed happily when answering his call, breathy and passion-filled while she came undone beneath him, sleepily and contentedly when she woke up beside him. Now she had to be reminded what it was.

And this shot through my heart more than I expected. I'm rooting for a happy ending for Sam, of course. This is such a juicy journey you're taking us on though, I'm enjoying every paragraph, every word!

☺️thank you 🤗

The Impala scene is what started this whole thing and I still love it 🥰 and the wonderful @slytherkins picture makes it so much better 💜

So glad we’re on the same wavelength cause that peek of stomach is 🤤🥵…

There’s lots of angst in the now to come but lots of fluff and some smutty fun in the then 💜

I’m so excited that your reading this 😘

Now

Dean had taken it upon himself to distract Brooke while Rowena did her thing, claiming to want to show her all the cool things the Men of Letters had accumulated over the years so Sam could focus on Rowena and her spell.

Sam was grateful Brooke wouldn’t have to ingest anything to break the curse. The potion Rowena was brewing did not look appetizing and smelled like the wrong end of a hellhound. Though, was there a right end to a hellhound?

Rowena sighed, and Sam saw the agitation in her eyes and pursed lips. “Everything okay?”

“While I am the best at what I do,” she explained, “memory spells are tricky at best. And though I enjoy the company of a strapping young lad such as yourself from time to time, you hovering over me like an oversized hawk is a wee bit distracting.”

“Sorry,” he said and moved from perching over her shoulder to a seat on the other side of the table. “It’s been a tough few weeks. I just need this done.”

For a moment, she looked sympathetic, but Sam knew it wasn’t for his weariness. “It’s almost done,” she said, picking up a vial of yellow flakes and tipping its contents into the bowl. “So what do you have to be so sullen about?”

“Not sure you noticed, but I burned down my girlfriend's house.” He sighed, rubbing a hand down his face, feeling the three days’ worth of growth on his cheeks. He’d had more important things to worry about than shaving, but he wondered how disheveled he looked.
