Now
The red and blue lights flooded the neighborhood, illuminating a small crowd. Dean sped down the street, ignoring the four police officers, who all turned to scowl at the speeding vehicle.
“Oh, shit,” said Brooke, on the edge of the back seat to better see between the brothers.
The flames that had drawn the residents from their homes had been doused. However, a handful of her neighbors still milled about, pointing fingers and whispering to each other about the continuing activity on the usually quiet street.
The Impala rolled up at the curb, and Brooke was on the sidewalk, racing blindly toward the police line tape before it came to a complete stop.
“Let me through,” she demanded, struggling against the officer who attempted to restrain her. “It’s my house! Let me through!”
Brett’s familiar bellow broke through the scuffle, and the officers released her under his command. She ran to him, tears staining her cheeks, and as soon as her brother’s arms embraced her, she broke down. He pulled her tight to his chest, and she sobbed into him while he apologized. “The fire spread too fast. It was out of control before help arrived. They couldn’t save anything.”
Oh my God, waiting for Rowena to drag her story out was painful, but it all now clicks into place (I love her lol)!! I cannot wait to see Brooke get her memories back...
She loves the theatrics of it all 😝
