Would anyone be interested on a Chaggie AU based loosely after The Little Mermaid with the added bonus that rather than the talking animal sidekicks Charlie is forced to just move around with Angel and Pentious because her overprotective father doesn't trust her near the surface and these two idiots is the best he could pull off or....
I am feeling bold but might I say a hottake?
Even though I get the angle that the one that has to break ties with Valentino is Angel instead of just being saved by someone else because is his story and yadda yadda would rob him of autonomy yadda yadda and that is all fine and dandy, but what keeps Angel tied to Val is not (just) a co-dependency sort of that always brings him back to him- don't get me wrong, that shit DOES clearly exists, that is what episode 2 is for (Angel didn't had to hear the voicemails, nor be glued to the phone, considering all he did was ghost him anyways. It wasn't out of fear for repercussions) but is not the ONLY reason why he is tied to this abusive son of a bitch, that I feel alot of people, when discussing this subplot, forget....
Angel is literally owned by Valentino.
Cut the magic sould bounding crap and go directly to what this allegory is: sex trafficking.
Angel DOES enjoys being a sex worker- but is clear his say on the matter and general autonomy is non-existent- like.... He was literally gang raped on screen. Is not just Val who directly assaults him- just like sometimes he has consensual sex with Valentino, Angel can get enjoyment of his job- but again, that is a non-factor to his owner because even if he hates something, he will be forced to do it.
Whenever, whetever.
Now with all that stablished....why the fuck is Charlie, princess of Hell and being way more powerful than Valentino, super chill with this?
I don't mean it as a story reason- it's very clear Charlie magically getting rid of this asshole would be fucking lame from a storytelling perspective- but like what is the reason IN-UNIVERSE?
Yes, Charlie got Angel onto trouble for "trying to help him" and all that stuff so she took a step back instead of getting him more in trouble but- girl, you didn't get him grounded by his mom, he is sporting a BLACK EYE that was clearly NOT there seconds ago. Even if she is too naive to deduce Angel gets sexually assaulted often, the physical abuse was clear as shit? And she was very clearly livid and about to destroy shit?
There is a few months spam between episodes 4 and 5, so we really, really need an flashback or something where either:
a. She talks to Angel and he somehow manages to convince him Val wasn't that bad and he was ok, that she didn't need to intervene (tho this would still be shaky since... y'know, she saw him backhanding and threatening Angel on ep6)
b. The easiest way: Charlie, and by proxy Lucifer, are physically unable to do anything. Is soul magic shit ala Little Mermaid, stablish that only the one that made the deal can break it and if they kill Val, something bad happen to Angel's soul.
And c- the least probable, but one that particular intrigues me- Charlie's sense of morality is so twisted due to her being- y'know, NOT human that she thinks Angel has to get rid of literal sexual trafficking as a part of a ""test"" to be worthy of redemption. Think of her little play that used *squints* a drug addict, someone clearly mentally ill, to play a *squints* role of a random dealer that prays on children..... Also sex before marriage is a sin on her eyes. Also when Angel stood up to Val in ep6, it was all "see?! He told his abuser to fuck off, he is worthy!" Despite said abuser literally throwing him to the ground and threatening him. And the ""camera"" was right on Angel's face, so there was no way that wasn't seen. It would be SO interesting to truly test's Charlie morals- how her delusions of how the world works around her isn't as simple as "well if you try REALLY hard maybe this abusive POS that literally owns you would let you go! :D And you can go to Heaven! nwn" I love when nice characters have actually really fucked up views of the world cause they aren't part of it lmao but alas.
Or just literally ANYTHING to justify the fact that fucking moth is still alive. Is up to Angel to stop searching confort in Val as much as he does on the drugs, yes, absolutely, you can't truly help someone that doesn't want to be helped-
But
Angel also self harms to see if Valentino "can let him go because he ended up broken". Like I don't...like this conception that all Angel needs is an shoulder pat and the promise of getting praises if he somehow manages to get out of his contract- contract that, again, he self harmed to get out of.
I must stress: I don't want Angel to get saved by anyone else. I want an reason why his ultra mega powerful bestie ain't at least trying to do so.
The way I am obssesed with Angel's relationship with the girls- and no, I don't mean it on a token gay guy on the gals group™ but rather how he seems to have this- older brother ish sense to him when he is with them.
He is the one that mocks Vaggie even on her lowest point but he was also the one to rush to her side when Charlie and Alastor left- no to mention he was the one leading the other guys to prepare the hotel later on.
He is the one the keep Nifty safe- even though he is extremely weirded out by her antics, and even didn't react with aggression when she was a bout to stab him (that shit wouldn't had flied with any character I tell you lmao) also LOOK HOW CUTE THEY ARE-
He is the one that protected Charlie from HIS abuser, shielding him from his world from day one- and overall just making sure she stayed safe, and away from Val.
And then there is Cherrie- his ride or die he trusts above anyone else. She is the one he rants to about his horrible day at the studio (which is bad enough to make her RUN to the Hotel after 5 months btw, so who knows what the hell was on those textes) tho I am inclined she is the older sibling at the relationship. I dunno she just has that vibe. She protects him alot more than he does her (that is not to say he doesn't protect her- he literally pushed her away from Pen's invention at the Pilot) and I like that, is a little change or dynamic with his other relationships.
I normally don't like to call a platonic relationship "sibling coded" unless is VERY explicitly implied that is the case, but honestly- with Angel I am willing to do an exception, because of this:
Is not far fetched to think Angel might had projected Molly onto his female friends- SPECIALLY Charlie, who was often draw with her on older sketches. Their dad was abusive, their relationship with their brother non-existent (this actually intrigues me alot because I can see Niss having beef with Angel but the fuck did Molly do?) and the mom isn't mentioned yet, so I am willing to think all they had was each other- flash forward to now, with Angel separated from his beloved sister, trapped onto an soul contract with his abusive ex, and meeting a bunch of girls that had reediming qualities- my guy had issues ok let him be.
Ok but Charlie taking Angel's hand on Finale fills me with so much joy, that is her deeply fucked up son she picked from the streets who sees her as a lost puppy he must protect at all cost even tho she is a literal demi god with an angel girlfriend and an angel father and he is a fucking dude with a few guns and the need to apparently project his dead sister on every women on his life.
Ok but- Hercules AU (as in the Disney movie, not the actual Greek lore lmao) because I always saw Valentino and Angel's relationship as Megara and Hades's just.... Without the family friendly barrier. But Husk is more like Philip, and Charlie is more Hercules, with Dazzle (or Razzle, I dunno the one that didn't die) as Pegasus.
So I ended up with this: Platonic!RainbowDust Hercules AU where Angel discovers friendships through Charlie but is still a spy of Val- Charlie on her own is trying to prove she can bring mortal souls to the Olympus, and uses the recluntant help of a Exiled DemiGod....Husk. Somewhere along the line, there is drama, songs and they ended up defeating Val with the power of love and a very big sword.
And somewhere along the line, Angel and Husk fuck.
If you think about it, the court scene was just Charlie doing an Power Point Presentation on why Angel deserves better and she was so real for that.
Angel Dust the moment he saw Valentino in the same room as Charlie and Nifty:
