Favourite Tiaras | The Connaught Diamond Tiara ↳ This tiara came to be in Sweden upon the marriage of Princess Margaret of Connaught and Prince Gustaf Adolf of Sweden in 1905. The tiara was a gift from the bride’s parents, the Duke and Duchess of Connaught. In 1920, Margaret passed away and her son gifted the tiara to his bride Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha as a wedding present in 1932. Sibylla wore the tiara often and it is today still heavily associated with her. In 1974, Sibylla’s daughter Princess Christina wore it on her wedding day as a tribute to her mother who died 18 months prior. The tiara is currently owned by Sibylla’s son, King Carl XVI Gustaf. It was the first tiara his wife, Queen Silvia was ever seen in (on the eve of their wedding) when she was still known as Silvia Sommerlath. Today the tiara is seen mostly on the head of Silvia, but her daughters Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine have both worn it in recent years.
Crown Princess Victoria and King Willem Alexander, then the Prince of Orange, acting like giddy schoolchildren when they found out that they were seated next to each other at the private dinner in honor of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark’s 70th birthday. The pair then continued to act like children as they gloated to their royal friends from across the room.
