Hi! I’m just getting into witchcraft and I’m really not interested in Wicca. I’ve been having trouble finding resources that don’t focus on Wicca and I would really like some help from some more experienced witches. More information on closed practices and how to avoid them would also be appreciated because I’ve been hearing a lot of conflicting things. Thank!

I don't usually jump into the closed practices debate because I can't tell you which practices are closed to you. Generally, you would be careful approaching practices of a specific ethnic group or community. But keep in mind, there are situations where someone might be invited to participate in a practice, even if they aren't part of the group. The problem often arises with disconnecting that practice and taking it as their own.

i think if it as the "grandmother example." Your friend may invite you over to meet his grandmother and she may offer you cake to eat. It is perfectly fine to chat with grandmother and accept the cake. You may not kidnap grandmother and put her to work in your own cake making factory.

Often the problem is less that someone is learning about something and more that someone is then selling it, promoting it or teaching it - taking ownership and any potential financial benefit away from those who the practice properly belongs to.
