Gomez and Morticia Addams got divorced. I woke up mortified and with a sense of inexplicable dread.

you literally don’t need any other plot and i would watch the movie

  • Every 'normal' adult is fussing around Pugsley and Wednesday because "poor children that must be so hard for you to see mom and dad break up like this"
  • But the kid are absolutely unfazed, arguing that "it's alright they will be together again soon". The normie are so sad for the "children clinging to vain hopes" until Morticia and Gomez get married again two weeks after the divorce.
  • In the meantime Mama and Uncle Fester fight about which one of them will go to whose custody.
  • They pretend to argue in court and at meeting with lawyers over the splitting of the properties but that's mostly Gomez insisting to leave more and more thing to his wife in an angry voice.
  • At home they decided not to talk to each other so Lurch has to (begrudgingly) transmit messages from one to the other, even when they are sat on either side of the table.
  • That works (more or less) then Morticia says one word in french and Gomez run to cover her with kisses until Morticia remind him that they are spliting (that's the only moment he seems to regret the whole thing)

I’m just gonna say it

There’s a difference between decades long franchises like doctor who, Star Trek and Star Wars and decades long franchises like scooby doo and the addams family. The first three are one long continuous story. The last two are many different incarnations. And because the last two are many different incarnations. NOT EVERYTHING IS UNIFORM!!!!

COLLEGE FIRST.

I love how the Addams Family has ZERO slut-shaming. Like… honey you can dance naked and enslave someone with your womanly charms if you want to, I don’t fucking care, but so help me you’re going to get a college education first.

A+ PARENTING

The Addamses are what every family should aspire to be like (you know; without the dismemberment and electric chairs as play time).  Honestly, have you ever seen more unconditionally loving and supportive parents than Gomez and Morticia?  And not just with the kids, but with each other.  I think what’s especially unique about them is how open they are with everything.  They don’t treat their children like children.  They treat them like they treat everyone else; direct, and to the point.

It’s creepy how many good examples of parenting and romantic relationships there is in these characters, especially considering they are supposed to be the antithesis of the stereotypical American nuclear family.

This Thanksgiving remember that the actual story of how Thanksgiving became a holiday is because of one singular old lady writing to the White House for 11 years that there needed to be a day to celebrate coming together as a family in a time of constant war and separation, particularly the middle of the Civil War, until Abraham Lincoln finally got tired of her and gave her the day.

The myth that we usually believe is the “First Thanksgiving,” that being the “congregation” between indigenous people and the Pilgrims of the Mayflower, was only because the leader of the said indigenous group knew the mutual language due to earlier slavery. The Puritans refused to eat with “savage Indians.” They stole their cropping techniques, and then slaughtered them all via internal warfare and intentional smallpox infestation.

The son of the chief had his head put on a pike that stayed in the town square for 50 years afterwards.

You can see more here:

So the moral of the story that you should remember for this Thanksgiving:

1. The legacy of colonization of baked into every single aspect of American culture

2. Try to respect the 566 indigenous nations in the United States that are left because they are deprived of rights, American citizenship, and any living history

3. Consistently writing to your local office and federal government might actually make a change

4. The only way to unite a country going through conflict, especially America, it was to make your voice heard, and make sure those in power no the necessity of overcoming prejudice

5. Turkey was not native to the section of America where the Pilgrims landed

Happy Thanksgiving, my people.
