I think they should let Scooby Doo shows and movies hibernate for a few years.

I'm just saying, when it "died" and came back with Zombie Island, Witch's Ghost, and eventually What's New Scooby Doo, shit was great.

When "Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get A Clue" was bad, eventually the really fun movies like Abracadabra Doo and the series Mystery Inc came out.

Let Velma kill itself for a bit. Let the greedy WB execs fester in the rotting corpse of a show they gave no shits for. Leave it alone for like 5 years or more.

Come back and Scooby Doo has an anime with the most GOATed fight scenes and sakuga tier chase scenes. Some JJBA tier references to old bands. Scooby eats God, mistaking him for a sandwich.

Anyway Velma got greenlit for a second season and I know I didn't watch it. Be apathetic towards the bitch the rest of its miserable run and let the gang come back for the better down the road

BROKE: the gang will outlive Scooby when they reach adulthood

WOKE: Scooby is immortal and has to live with the knowledge that he will outlive the gang

BESPOKE: Shaggy actually walked through a door to the after life once (like in His Dark Materials) and so split his daemon from his body. Scooby is in fact, an aspect of him and shall live until he dies.

Scooby is actually the representative of some demonic/eldritch being who accidentally accepted Shaggy’s soul in a contract.

He just decided to stick around and when the rest of the gang appeared he just added them to the deal. Now the whole gang is immortal and Scooby technically holds ownership over all their souls.

None of them have questioned why they haven’t aged in 30 years and Scooby sure as hell isn’t bringing it up.

With every new unfortunate thing we learn about the new Velma series and the war crimes it does against the original characters, my partner actually pulled out his phone to look up this guy he absolutely abhors, and said in the most melancholic voice I've ever heard him use-

"Perhaps we've treated you too harshly."

I may agree with him.

I stand by scrappy did nothing wrong

I do think one of the reasons that people are so angry about the shit show that is Velma.

Is that the OG Scooby Doo show came out in 1969, it’s been with us for 50 plus years.

It’s not just a beloved animated show, it’s a beloved animated show from people’s childhoods for the last five decades.

There are people who grew up with Scooby, sharing the show with their kids and grandkids. A family tradition of sorts, where each generation meets and loves the fandom. Each bringing something new to it, from the books, comics, tv shows, movies, etc.

Something that is so ingrained in the hearts of so many people, especially from childhood is going to be a treasured memory and a part of who that person is.

So when the shit hits the fan this badly, people can get pretty protective of the beloved part that has meant so much to them and has been a part of their lives since childhood.

Thinking about how the only way a sex-related joke in a Scooby-Doo adult show wouldn't be juvenile and lazy is if the gang (adults, please) were investigating the case, heard some noises, and, thinking's the monster, went to see what's going on, only to find two of their suspects getting freaky with each other, which would ultimately give them alibis, and I can't decide which would be funnier:

Should Velma cover Shaggy and Scooby's eyes while Daphne covers Fred's (despite all of them being, y'know, adults in an adult show), or Scooby covering Shaggy's while everyone else looks on, disturbed.

I was lying in bed, and an adult version of Scooby Doo came to me in a vision.

The gang is all in university: Velma is studying biochemistry, Fred is studying engineering, Daphne is studying communications, and Shaggy is studying psychology. Scooby Doo is Shaggy’s dog. Shaggy is a stoner, and runs true crime/cold case podcast with Daphne. This gives us a chance to see a friendship not yet explored between the two. Daphne and Fred are high school sweethearts, but Daphne is considering breaking up with Fred. Fred and Velma know each other from first year classes and run in similar friend circles. When students and faculty start dying in mysterious circumstances on campus, Daphne and Shaggy are delighted at the prospect of having their own investigation to uncover. Fred, worried for Daphne’s safety, joins their investigations after failing to convince Daphne and Shaggy to leave it alone. He eventually recruits Velma when they need the biochem labs to analyze evidence. This brings the gang all together, each with a skill set that makes important in their own way to the group. The mysteries bring them closer together as a friend unit. Obviously, the adult themes come in from the murders and potential for gore/other unpleasant existential themes.

And now I really want to watch this show! Make it happen!

what the Adult version of Scooby gang characters should be. or at least in my mind

After watching ten minutes of the Velma Show, and Being obsessed with reading how truly Awful it is,

Don’t Hate watch this garbage! I have already seen articles about it getting a second season! Save us. by not watching it. Become a pirate lol

But Hearing how Awful Mindy has ruined our favorite Gang. you know what! I’m gonna Fix what a “modern” version of each character should be/make them mature. because honestly I’m annoyed at how dirty Mindy did the scooby gang

you know what? all this velma shit is a good thing. not the show itself, that’s a soulless cash grab invented by a terfy manhater who’s on her way to ruin self-inserts for us all. the show is unequivocally bad.

but the reaction to it… it’s beautiful, and I say that completely unironically. the internet has united in a way that I haven’t seen since the early stages of the pandemic (maybe even more) to protest the bastardization of such a beloved show.

and what’s even better is that in clowning on velma, adults are revisiting their love of scooby-doo and the actual mystery gang. there’s so much fanart, so many headcanons, so much appreciation for the real deal.

and then everyone captions their work with “this is the show they should have made” or “I wish this existed!” Guess what? It does exist. It exists now because of you.

So party on my dudes. Sometimes bullying is a good thing.

the best thing about the velma series is very literally nothing about the series itself, but the effect it’s having. multi generations of fans are coming out of hibernation and exposing themself as diehards to create new content dedicated to a group of mystery solving misfits that we all unanimously love

The original is still very watchable for kids today and is about as inoffensive as it gets. (Kids and their dog solving mysteries where someone in a mask is scaring people.) It has been around since the 70′s, and it’s had a few iterations since, including an animated movie count that I’m pretty sure rivals the Land Before Time series. (But more consistently good, I think) Seriously, in my family alone we have 4 generations who could all comfortably enjoy the various versions of Scooby Doo (Velma excluded) It’s just very classic. Like Moomins for Finnish Folk. Or Ge Ge No Kitaro in Japan. Honestly I’m sure every country has some IP like these that are iconic and beloved.

I feel like in recent years there been an increase in producers and directors who create shows and movies with the intent to say “fuck you” to the audience/parts of the audience.

And it really bothers me because at best it’s bad storytelling. And at worst is upsets and alienates fans.

There are ways to address racism and sexism on screen without straight up harassing all white characters and male characters. (Hi new Velma show).

Fans should be encouraged to speculate and guess the ending and if they guess right, that means the story makes logical sense. (Looking at you Rian Johnson and GOT directors).

Even if you have a point you want to make with your audience, you need to acknowledge that movies and shows are storytelling mediums. If people wanted to learn about the history of racism within the justice system and how it relates to drugs, they’d watch a documentary. It is possible to create shows and movies that cover hard hitting topics and explore societal problems that are still good stories. There are ways to shock the audience without tossing out all the clues previously dropped. And these giant entertainment companies have the money and resources to find and hire good storytellers but they actively choose not to and instead support films and shows that are intended to be reactionary to the audience it’s geared for.

And as an aspiring author, I’m tired of it.

One of my favorite movies is The People Under the Stairs, which addresses themes of gentrification, racism, Nixonian politics and child abuse.

Thing is, the themes are presented with enough subtlety that it might go over most people's heads (especially if you aren't that familiar with the time period and Nixon's presidency) and managed to achieve them without demonizing all white people and making all black people pillers of moral virtue. You can also watch it to just enjoy a likeable, smart, kickass kid protagonist sight against a couple of psychos in a fortress of a house because the base story and character writing are so well done.
