1) i appreciate the dedication that went into perfecting this. i cant even imagine how you practice the punching bit when the failstate is burning your hand

2) science side of tumblr, what are the physics on this? bc ive never seen someone put out a fire with- what? sheer force? friction? what facet of the action is accomplishing this, exactly?

this plant is kudzu. aka 'the vine that ate the south'. a damaging invasive plant that’s a nuisance to the local area in this video. Now look at those moos go

Oh, right. The cows. The cows for kudzu, the cows chosen especially to kill kudzu, kudzu's cows. Those cows?

So no, kudzu was introduced to the US in the late 1800s, and originally marketed as an ornamental plant for gardens and vine arbors. It was also widely used by the CCC in an attempt to halt erosion during the Dust Bowl, and actually sponsored by the Soil Conservation Service for some 3 million acres. Which... is kind of like putting down astroturf to stop erosion, if your astroturf was the cursed avatar of an elder god and consumed everything in its path.

As for cows not eating “enough” of it? Kudzu vines can grow up to a FOOT PER DAY. You’d be hard pressed to keep it down even with constant grazing. Without more intervention, the amount shown in the video will grow back within a couple months, especially since they only removed the leaves and not the vines or roots. It’s one of the biggest ecological problems in the south because it’ll cover an entire landscape, shade out all the plants underneath, and die off after the growing season so you go from that^ to this:

That said, the young leaves are edible and taste a lot like spinach, so if you’ve got some already that’s not in a very polluted spot (around me it’s mostly along the highways, which is no good) it is in fact free vegetable. It also makes a pretty decent hempcrete. But it’s going to take an insane amount of work to restore the native species that belong in this environment, unfortunately a lot more than just setting the cows on it.

That “2 days, 400 cattle, kudzu pushed back” at the end made me want to make this.
