Finally got around to watching Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog.
Now, THIS is an interesting beast. For once, I found this film to be a case that actually knows its characters very well, but had trouble weaving them into a cohesive story. There was definitely some padding at the beginning leading to a lot of cramming of the plot as it geared towards the end.
That said, the characterization and humor are just SO on point and endearing, man. I wasn’t sure how well this crossover would work because the animation rules of the Courage universe are much wackier and lenient than the Scooby-Doo universe, but it managed to embrace the cartooniness of both worlds very respectably.
All in all, an absolute delight that took a while to get going, but the love for both series carried it to a very solid payoff.
R.I.P. Thea White. You inspire courage in all of us.
