10 things YOU didn’t know about the Teen Titans!

We all remember growing up with the Teen Titans cartoon. Heck, who didn’t have their lesbian awakening with toon Raven? But what even the most loyal fans might not know is there are also Teen Titans comics that predate 2003!

Test yourself with these 10 fun facts that YOU didn’t know about the Teen Titans!

1. Dick Grayson Keeps Detective Equipment in His Underwear

We all know Robin, the Boy Wonder. But what we weren’t “wonder”ing is what he keeps in his pants! As a detective, Robin has no time for pocketless pants. And who can blame him?

2. The Titans Don’t Organize Their Communal Fridge

Each of the Titans has their own private kitchen, but what many loyal fans don’t know is they also have a communal fridge! Since most of the members are either not from Earth or severely sleep deprived, the fridge is poorly organized and has whole hamburgers just laying on the shelves. So relatable!

3. Raven is More Popular at College than Kid Flash!

Did you know Raven went to college? We didn’t! We thought she was in high school! But when Raven did go to college, everyone liked her more than they liked Wally West. Wally even asked Raven to help him with his homework, because he was failing. Talk about relatable! If I hadn’t dropped out of high school, maybe I wouldn’t be writing this stupid list!

4. Raven Didn’t Wear Pants Until She Became A Titan

Nowadays, we imagine Raven as up to date with the latest gothic fashion, but back in the 80s, she wore pink! Not only that, she never wore pants until she was forced to while infiltrating a cult. We should applaud the Church of Blood for getting Raven started down the path of fashion.

5. Starfire Hates Soap Operas

In one issue, Starfire says she hates soap operas. It’s kind of ironic, as her life is practically a soap opera! She’s a princess from another planet with an evil sister who’s been in a political marriage. She has even kissed Raven at her own wedding!

6. Gar is a creep!

We know Beast Boy today as a loveable goof who’s Raven’s boyfriend. But in the 80s, he was a sexual harasser who sucked in every way! He even forgave Deathstroke for Terra’s death. What an awful guy! Truly scum of the earth!

7. Marv Wolman Made Donna fall in Love with Two of His Self Inserts

In the 80s, Donna was dating a man named Terry Long, who was 29 while she was 19. As if this wasn’t bad enough, Terry and Marv also have an uncanny resemblance. To make it even worse, there’s also a storyline where Donna is kidnapped and mind controlled by a Greek God who looks just like a buffer Terry. For the love of God, Marv, stop it!

8. Even Marv Regrets Killing Joey

My editor told me to write a paragraph about this, but I don’t know who Joey is.

9. Kory’s Room Has Holographic Birds

This one’s a lot more lighthearted. Kory’s room in the tower is Tamaran themed, complete with wall to wall plants and holographic birds. Not many people know this, but in the comics, Kory sometimes has a fully developed personality with complex feelings! Crazy, right?

10. We Will Probably Never Get NTT Characterizations Back

I’m crying. Are you happy, DC? Happy with your BBRae? Your Kori? Your Batfam Dick? I’m on my hands and knees here, DC. Please give us back the NTT. I’m not playing around anymore. I swear to God, DC–

That was 10 things YOU didn’t know about the Teen Titans! Hit that share button if you didn’t know some of these!

Raven Webcomic Announced - Renaissance of Raven

(via AIPT Comics) In Renaissance of Raven by writer Sina Grace (Superman: The Harvests of Youth) and artists Nico Bascuñan (Red Hood: Outlaws), Katherine Lobo (The Vampire Slayer), and Carola Borelli (Avengers Academy: Marvel’s Voices Infinity Comic), Raven needs an escape. Her fellow Titans won’t leave her alone, she just had a fight with Beast Boy, and to top it off, it’s the anniversary of her mom’s death. We find her trying to live life beyond the curse of her father. She’s over it! Raven is more than her trauma! When a strange girl in a graveyard proclaims that Raven is some kind of destined hero, she’s ready to walk away…until suddenly, she’s pulled through an enchanted portal…to the kingdom of Galonia. Raven is sent hundreds of years into the past, where she must contend with a cabal of witches and the difficult choice of helping those in need or returning home!

Well I know how exactly I feel about this - nonchalant.

On one hand, it will be a fun reference picture book for fan materials. The concepts of royalty, secret society, ancient witch coven, as well as time and space travelling are intriguing. The art in itself is pretty. I'm not particularly impressed with the dress Raven is wearing here (a design similar to her current vampire design will be indefinitely better IMO), but, as I say, it is promising for the prospective fan contents.

The characterisation, though, the characterisation is not it. The plot itself does spark some interest and is a breath of fresh air in Raven's storytelling repertoire. Also, I guess DC is trying to be a little "meta" with the plot summary (like, "look how aware we are of the fans' wishes!"), because the fans do truly want to see her "live life beyond the curse of her father", and we do think that "Raven is more than her trauma".

But phrases like "her fellow Titans won't leave her alone"; "she's ready to walk away" when someone calling her a destined hero, obviously hinting at the need of her help; and "the difficult choice of helping those in need or returning home"? Those are omens for how she is going to be portrayed. Like, Raven not appreciating her friends' company and not having a proactive attitude in helping people? That does not sound like my Raven at all.

That is not to mention the fact that the cover only has two other supporting characters: Garfield and a seemingly past version of him... It is dangerously hinting at the possibility of a soap romance being a focus. Actually, I wouldn't mind a "new" romance for Raven, or even a good BBRae portrayal as long as she gets to do her own things. But with how DC is handling her now, I'm not optimistic.

Conclusion? This would definitely be an enjoyable, light-hearted read, as least for me. But at the same, I might have to have pretend that the protagonist is some random witchy girl and not my beloved Raven.

P/S: Also, how would the Titans bother her that much when she can just teleport away at the first hint of annoyance? Oh but I forgot she doesn't have her own comfort dimension like she did in NTT anymore. Silly me!

Yeah, I agree. The lines about the Titans and her seemingly not wanting to help those in need made me pause for all the reasons you described. It's certainly not a great sign, but I don't feel that we can know for sure that it's bad until we actually see the comic as it's written.

I don't believe that the man on the left is intended to be Gar, I think it's far more likely that it's an entirely new character. Gar pre-transformation was blond, and there's not really anything about the way they're drawn indicating that they're meant to be the same person. If anything, I think he may be a new man that she meets when she travels to the past who she might develop feelings for and jeopardize her relationship with Gar. Which sounds annoying and not like my thing, but I'm used to having to ignore romance choices I hate with Raven.

I am interested in the story being about Raven trying to live a life beyond the curse of her father. As long as they don't just ignore Trigon entirely, I think that could be really good. A story about her in new situations with a backdrop of her recovering from her trauma could potentially be great.

I really just feel like we don't know enough yet to call this good or bad. It's certainly not going to be the best thing ever, or even really my preferred version of Raven, but it might still surprise us and be at least okay. I think current signs point to Gar not being a major character in this story (despite being on the cover, if Raven is pulled back in time without him he won't be able to have many interactions with her) and that alone feels like a breath of fresh air compared to the Raven comics of the past year. I say I don't know how to feel because I really can't know how to feel until I actually read it. In my opinion, the synopsis has both green and red flags. We won't know until it comes out.

This is truly a promising read for any Raven fans. And I agree that, despite the choice of words like "walk away" (not, for instance, "in doubt" or "hesitant"), we should give it a chance, because sometimes the summary just chooses shocking or inflammatory wording to attract attention.

Perhaps my remark about the new character was a bit confusing. I meant that he is likely going to be a juxtaposition to Garfield, not that they are the same person. And he is most likely going to be Raven's love interest in this elseworld, which I don't mind but the Raven he is going to fall for might not be my Raven so I am nonchalant.

Actually, I think my being nonchalant is kind of the same with you not knowing how to feel about this - we both have no positive or negative anticipation, but we will definitely give it a chance.

You know what I'm most afraid of? That Garfield occupies her thoughts frequently throughout the story for no plot-relevant reason; or even worse, that he gives her some moral lessons in her mind (like not seeking revenge or having compassion or something). I don't understand why there are only two supporting characters on her cover, both of which are her (possible) love interests. Why don't we get a glimpse of, let's say, the leader of the witch cabal? Or maybe the major villain?

It's been a long time since Raven fans last had something to look forward to. I'm crossing my fingers that DC will not blow it completely for us this time.

Oh god yeah you're so right about Gar occupying her thoughts. I really hope that won't be the case. I've had enough of that to last a lifetime with the Beast World thing of her going I can't kill my enemies... because it's not what Gar would want and the whole resolution to the Titans 2023 demon Ravn arc.

My hope is that the two dudes on the cover are mostly there to drum up intrigue and go LOOK BBRAE since DC has been pushing that so hard lately. But I might be being overly optimistic. Still, as of now we can't do much more than judge a book by its cover. (Though speaking of that, they have actually released a few textless panels from the actual comic, and it's disappointing already. Raven's hair is far more purple than it appears on the cover and her eyes are purple as well rather than blue gray. I really hate the trend of characters not looking the way they will in the comic on the cover.)

...purple what???

God, why can't she have normal black hair and grey eyes...

Do you have the panels?

It's really not my preferred look (I mean, it's basically just cartoon Raven without gray skin) but it is good art and way better than how she's been drawn in the last year of Titans comics. Like it's not good but it's been so much worse.

Okay, so can we all agree that the episode "How Long Is Forever?" of Teen Titans is one of the best of the series, even though the ending is kinda dark?

In the timeline without starfire:

  • Cyborg becomes obsolete. He burnt out his last power cell during the battle with warp and becomes permanently bound to the tower in order to keep his cybernetic body functional. Essentially being a hermit for 20 years.
  • Beastboy tries to be a solo hero and gets his butt kicked A LOT. Becoming the laughing stock of jump city. He then joins the circus, trying to find some kind of positive to his powers.
  • Raven, either willingly or by force, goes to an insane asylum, and for years, we can assume that's where she stays. Her mind becomes lost. She's hallucinating and talks herself through her mental state. We find out through her dialog that she has hallucinations of starfire or her friends very frequently. "It's just another figment. Don't even look. " she feels safe in the asylum because the building is run down and decaying. Her room is coated in thick white energy. Raven is wearing her white cloak, signifying that she has also reached her power limit.

It's always been my headcanon that she went insane trying to find where starfire went, but she was outside of the timeline. Raven, being an empath, could feel that starfire wasn't dead. Just gone. I think the false hope of "one day, any day. Maybe today, starfire will come home." Is the exact mentality that drove Raven insane. Like a beep, you can faintly hear but can't see or figure out where it's coming from.

  • And finally, nightwing..dude basically becomes batman. Through the dialog with future cyborg, it's implied that nightwing left the team not long after starfire disappeared.

I don't think Robin became obsessed like Raven did. I think Robin tried to rush his grieving process. Tried to get back to "work as usual," but EVERYTHING made him angry. I think he transformed every ounce of his pain and depression into being ANGRY. I think he started taking things too far with criminals, and either he got kicked from the team in an argument, or they argued because he wanted to quit willingly and go solo. Staying in the tower and with these friends that he..that she loved. Walking past her empty bedroom every day. not hearing her cheery voice every morning. It was too much.

Anyway I give a little recap BECAUSE. I was rereading the teen titans. Go! Comics and in issue 31, we actually get to see future nightwing again.

It's really cute. Anyway, warp has messed with Robin's timeline and basically steps in after Robin's parents died and becomes his new mentor, but he's being trained to use his nepotism for evil.

It's a really good comic, and the open flirting between starfire and nightwing is really cute. Think sophomore lightly flirting with senior crush.

I'm not complaining. This entire mini arc thing was GREAT. My only issue though..

DID STARFIRE COME BACK IN THE FUTURE TIMELINE????

IS RAVEN STILL NUTS??

IS BEASTBOY STILL MORBIDLY DEPRESSED AND WORKING AT THE CIRCUS?

IS CYBORG STILL A FORCED HERMIT??

Give me one. Just one scene of future night wing going back to his timeline, walking right into future Titans tower. You don't even have to show the team. Show ravens tea cup on the counter. Show beastboys video games splayed across the living room. Show a fully charged portable power cell on the kitchen table!

Show nightwing walking out of the portal and directly into the living room in the middle of the night, with starfire asleep on the couch, waiting for him to come home from patrols.

Bonus points! Have nightwing take his gloves off. He gently moves starfires hair out of her face, and we see a wedding ring!

I was so hoping that for the 20th anniversary of Teen Titans, we would get SOMETHING to close at least THIS plotline.

It's midnight, and I can't stop thinking about how starfire canonically has Nine Stomachs. (See Mother May Eye episode)

WHY WAS THIS NEVER USED???

Krylla orchid did something in her fanfics (I think it's called clueless or communal?) where starfire swallowed a chip with her alien version of a passport in it. She had to make herself puke it up in order to give it to the green lanterns to claim sanctuary on earth.

Tbh, that would've been badass to see in the show, like starfire, just using her alien anatomy to do better hero business.

A goon trying to stab her in the heart and realizing, "WHY IS YOUR HEART ON THE WRONG SIDE??"

Robin tries to teach starfire new fighting styles and realizes, "Star has one less set of ribs than humans do...wtf?"

Raven freaking out because when starfire goes into healing sleep in the greenhouse, to soak up UV rays, her pulse becomes so faint she looks and psychically feels dead, but her body gets extremely HOT to the touch.
