Get Out writer and director Jordan Peele has already lined up his next project with the film Us, but — if he has his way — he’ll also take on a beloved cartoon from the 90s: Gargoyles.
According to entertainment industry newsletter The Ankler, Jordan Peele approached Disney about directing a new Gargoyles adaption based on the classic 90s cartoon.  Unfortunately for fans, though, circumstances don’t necessarily look good for the project, even though the studio hasn’t officially turned the director down.  Disney is reportedly sitting on the project in hopes that Peele will turn his attention elsewhere:
“How do you turn down Jordan Peele?  Well, you can’t.  Who wants to be responsible for that decision?  So in the absence of a good reason to say no, but prevented by their Big IP box from saying yes, Disney is slow walking the decision.  It’s hoping, it seems, that they’ll run out the clock, he’ll sign other deals elsewhere, and the project will just fade away.”
Interestingly enough, back in 2010, Disney was reportedly looking to bring Gargoyles to the big screen courtesy of X-Men movie producer Lauren Shuler Donner and Wolverine writer Zoe Green.  The project was set to be completely separate from the classic 90s cartoon and be centered around a new supernatural mythology.  According to the report, Disney aimed to use its success with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as the basis for the reboot, suggesting the studio envisioned the film as a franchise.  Of course, that project never came to fruition and, since then, the studio has not announced any other plans to bring Gargoyles to the big screen.
Co-created by Greg Weisman, Gargoyles focused on a clan of mystical gargoyles that turned to stone during the day, but came to life at night.  The cartoon ran for 61 episodes from 1994-1996 and starred Keith David, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Jeff Bennett and Frank Welker.

… why on Earth would Disney not want to do this?
