I LOOOOVED this latest episode of Amphibia! How both halves were about the Plantars trying to fit into the Boonchuy family, and the wonderful reversal of Anne’s predicament from early on in the show... And again, the sense of maturity and growth and change of status quo, to have Anne help guide others in lessons she herself doesn’t need to learn! It’s a really clever way to keep her character involved in similar arcs without having her repeat the same morals for herself!
Plus the duality of Sprig being young and overeager to be a Boonchuy... Compared to Hop Pop being slow and wanting to enjoy it while it lasts, but still really principled about NOT being a freeloader, even beyond the potential threat of being thrown out! I love this old frog and his principles, it’s great to see!
And again, it’s wonderful seeing the Plantars in Anne’s place, it’s always fun seeing the situations and context changed for these characters’ roles, and it reminds me a lot of Season 1 as a result, nostalgically enough- Just with more emotional continuity established and plot in the background! It’s incredibly rewarding.
But GOD that last bit with Mr. Boonchuy reminding the Plantars of how they took in Anne and made her a part of the family, and how of course the Boonchuys are indebted and will always pay that back... God my heart! Not to mention the duality with the first half of the episode about Sprig wanting to make his way into the Boonchuys, while Hop Pop is trying to avoid burdening or disturbing them... In turn the first half has Mrs. Boonchuy really accepting Sprig as a family member and not just esteemed guest, while the latter episode has Mr. Boonchuy reiterate his gratitude and admiration as family/guests of the highest honor!
I just... LOVE seeing Anne’s parents really step in as their own characters, becoming the Plantars to the Plantars, if that makes sense! Again seeing these plots repeat but with next circumstance and context and characters, it all feels nostalgic and rewarding to me, when you remember how Anne fared, how the Plantars took her in- And now these farmers reap what they sow with the Boonchuys, and it dawns on them as they get gratitude from others who make it clear just how kind they were!
It’s just very nice to see Anne’s parents help the Plantars realize the impact of their kindness, that they have nothing to prove to begin with, certainly not anymore- And like Hop Pop I was also taken aback, before going of course, when Mr. Boonchuy brought up the debt HIS family arguably owed, actually! The most the Boonchuy parents can do to repay that is to give the same kindness in turn to the Plantars, and it just MEANS a lot to me okay?!
I loved this episode, it really touched my heart, and I think it’s one of the best ones of Season 3! Granted there’s literally only three episodes so far, so we’ll see how this holds up... But all in all, it really warmed me up! VERY solid and concise episode with continuity within itself, that makes it feel part of a larger package and its own overall story, rather than two episodes just slapped side by side!
...ALSO WHEN ARE WE GETTING THE NAMES FOR THE PARENTS MATT-
