That, and being compared to almost all your life. And being asexual/aroace on top of all that.
"I don't think you're trying enough! So-and-so's daughter has a house and a car and a husband and three kids and did a gap year and got A's in everything! Why don't you go on a gap year? Why don't you do this course? Why don't you do the subjects I did? I wish you could find a nice man someday! Why won't you give me grandkids?? I hear so much stuff about other kids!! Why can't you do that?! You're useless and lazy and a failure!! You never want to do anything! You just play your stuoid video games!!"
Me, an asexual asocial introvert who's never been in a relationship and failed my exams due to my emotionally abusive and neglectful home life:
You survived and you deserve to grow at your own pace.
heal, so when somebody tries to love you – you let them.
Re-parenting yourself is like: I will hold you because no one ever did. I will show you tenderness because all you ever knew was hardship. I will protect you when everyone else left you to fend for yourself. I know it’s not fair what happened to you. But I am here for you now.
For me, it is also things like:
- gentle reminders and encouragement to do things that will feel better long term, even if I don't want to do them in the moment
- giving myself time to feel emotions even if they are uncomfortable, and explore their source
- reminding myself that I can heal and grow out of the dysfunctional behaviors and thought patterns my upbringing gave me
- being gentle with my imperfections
- affirming that giving myself importance is not selfishness
You don’t teach your children not to hit people by hitting them.
You don’t teach your children not to scream by screaming at them.
You don’t teach your children to be respectful by disrespecting them.
You don’t teach your children how to do anything by subjecting them to physical, emotional, or verbal abuse as a form of discipline.
The type of parents you have makes all the difference and when someone has good and secure parents and comes from a loving and safe home it eliminates them having to suffer from trauma built up in a place that’s meant to be safe for them and inflicting that same pain on others. I hope that this generation grows up to be better parents and heals from the things our parents have done to them.
Tumblr — Your Happy Place
May is Mental Health Month, and we want to celebrate the Happy Place you create here on Tumblr. In fact, 90% of you said you spend time on Tumblr better than on other platforms. That’s all thanks to 🥁YOU🥁!: the creators, rebloggers, and community members—everyone who is cultivating inspiration, entertainment, and making Tumblr feel like home each day.
This year, you will find a new weekly theme and writing prompts powered by our partners @dayone-app. We want to get you thinking, journaling, and improving your mental wellbeing.
Let’s kick it off with: ☮️PEACE☮️. With just a pen and paper, a keyboard, or a touchpad, our daily journaling prompts can help you find a place for the noise and buzz that fills your mind each day. It may not seem like much, but journaling has been proven to benefit mental wellbeing and boost your mood. After all, small changes can sometimes make a big difference.
So join the fun this Mental Health Month by utilizing our daily prompts! We would also love you to share your PEACE-themed mood boards using the tag #your happy place, so we can find and share your contributions. We hope you’ll find #your happy place with us—because when wellness is everything, all is well. Peace out ✌✌
if all you did was survive today, pat yourself on the back. it may be small or inconsequential to you, but surviving is a success too.

Happy Solstice (summer where I am), Ascension Day and everything else today brings. Take it easy on yourself. We are healing the collective consciousness. I guess I'm slowly healing myself too... Sending love ❤️
