Friday, March 1 Original Series – Episode Premiere on Disney Channel and Disney Junior Pupstruction “A Bright Idea/The Friendliest Frog” (1-20) (10:00-10:30 a.m. EST on Disney Channel/9:00-9:30 a.m. EST on Disney Junior) “A Bright Idea” – Pupstuction builds a lighthouse to keep boats safe day or night.

“The Friendliest Frog” – When the heat becomes too much for a friendly frog, Pupstruction recreates a rainforest environment in his home. *Gabriel Iglesias (“Monsters at Work”) guest stars as Felipe the tree frog. TV-Y

Saturday, March 23 Original Series – Episode Premiere on Disney Channel and Disney XD Hailey’s On It! “The Umpire Strikes Back/Magician: Impossible” (1-22) (11:00-11:30 a.m. EDT) “The Umpire Strikes Back” – Hailey goes to great lengths to catch a foul ball at a Barnacles game.

“Magician: Impossible” – When a popular magician’s tricks are exposed, Hailey must find the perpetrator. TV-Y7

Saturday, March 30 Original Series – Episode Premiere on Disney Channel and Disney XD Hailey’s On It! “Bad Bear Deay/2001:A Spouse Odyssey” (1-23) (11:00-11:30 a.m. EDT) “Bad Bear Deay” – Scott gets into an exclusive club at school thanks to an amazing hair gel but quickly regrets ignoring the gel’s side effects.

“2001:A Spouse Odyssey” – Hailey throws her parents a dream wedding. TV-Y7

Love that they ended the Christmas/ holiday special with them saying Mele Kalikimaka in honor of Hailey and her dad’s Hawaiian heritage.

So the general consensus is that Hailey is presently too selfish to be able to enter a relationship in a healthy way, and I agree! I've got a lot of season 1 Anne Boonchuy vibes from her. She has this sort of skewed image of friendship.

And in Hailey's case, it seems reasonable that she would. Her best friend and only real friend has only ever been Scott, who is very much just this sort of yes man in her life, always sort of going along with her. We do see him start to challenge this in a few of the episodes, as well as Hailey make efforts to rectify the behavior. She is definitely growing! But she clearly struggles to understand that others are not like Scott. They won't just go with her flow because she wants them to, and they can't be easily manipulated like him.

Another thing to consider is that she is only 14. If someone claiming to be from the future burst out of my closet when I was 14, telling me the entire world was going to succumb to a fiery apocalypse unless I alone reversed global warming, I honestly probably would've just laid down in traffic.

It isn't exactly right, but I think it totally makes sense for Hailey to be as self-centered as she is right now. She has to save the world and the ONLY person that she can share that with right now is Scott. And to be honest, though he is more than happy to help her wherever he can, he probably isn't very great for the more in depth emotional support someone in that situation might need.

We aren't even one full season in, and the characters have so much room for growth!

HAILEY'S ON IT! (2023-) | 1x05 “Road Trippin'/Escape Doom”

I really like The Owl House, i really do But the fandom from that show has done such an irreparable damage to media criticism that if a show doesn’t have ¨dark lore¨ or is written in different way, like being more comedy focused, for example, people would label that said show as bad because ¨it isn’t like The Owl House¨. Not every show needs to do the exact thing, some shows can be episodic comedy or more lighthearted and work just fine. They don’t need to have a dark isekai fantasy storyline to be good. They can do their own thing.

I don’t disagree with this at all, but I do think this predates the Owl House.

Honestly, you can go back to the height of Adventure Time and see the way fans started to eschew the kinds of wacky adventures that made the show what it was because they wanted more lore and more of the serious side. I remember Steven Universe having a similar divide over slice of life episodes after season 1.

Not to say every complaint like that isn’t warranted, not every low stake episode works, but imo it’s been a problem for a long time that self proclaimed animation fans don’t want to give stuff the time of day unless it has a serialized story that it leans into often enough for fans.

Which, from what I can tell, by the final season of something folks are gunning for all plot all the time (don’t get me wrong, stories do tend to pick up the pace towards the end, but not everything needs to be story, we can have the Fire Nation Footloose episode).

I will say that it’s unfortunate how many people slept on Amphibia because of its more lighthearted tone, can’t even win if you do have a big serialized story
