The Nimona movie could have been 30 minutes shorter if Ballister had just sent Ambrosius the full video. "You see, my kid couldn't have been mimicking the Director, simply because she was too busy mimicking YOU, darling. Oh, and did you see that part where the Director drove the sword into you??"

Absolutely true, 10/10, flawless point.

However, counterpoint: if he’d done that we wouldn’t have gotten to see giant smoke-and-light beast Nimona, and that design was metal as hell and I am richer in spirit for having been able to witness it.

Conclusion: someone please come up with a series of events where Ballister shows the bae the entire video but we also get full beast-mode Nimona and Ballister standing on the giant sword to save her, because again, metal, but in a more tender-yet-agonizing way.

That version:

Ballister tells him "Even if you don't trust Nimona, I was there when we filmed the confession video. It was stupid of me not to publish the entire thing, but Nimona posed as you to get that footage. When the Director was confronted by Nimona, she stabbed her with my old sword - this sword you brought with you - thinking it was you she would kill. She confessed to framing me while she thought you were dying."

Ambrosius is a bit stunned for a bit then Ballister adds on "Oh, and you should talk to the squire. He had video evidence of the director switching out my sword before it was shot out of my hand."

After this, Ambrosius decides to investigate the director again and decides to have people with him in case she's still not above trying to kill him. "Ok, even if the Director lied, that girl is still Glorith's Monster. Even if she didn't set you up, she's trying to take advantage of your situation. She wants to endear herself to you so you'll get everyone to let their guards down before she attacks!"

Yelling ensues, the conversation ends basically the same way it does in the movie, Ballister confronts Nimona, Ambrosius doesn't make it back to the castle in time to confront the Director before Nimona hits her breaking point, and the movie plays out the same from there.

Genius 10/10 more angsty, betrayal and we still get Nimona's metal monster design

Okay, I like how Ballister had an actual reason for distrusting Nimona towards the end. Too many movies would have Nimona do something stupid to make him lose his trust. It’s cheap and I’m glad they didn’t do it. Same thing with Ambrosius. You never feel like either of them are acting bad or villainous, but at the same time, you know what’s happening isn’t fair.

Also, are we going to acknowledge the fact that Nimona has been by herself for 1,000 years? When I realized that my jaw dropped.

So you’re telling me that for centuries Gloreth’s bloodline has been forced into knightly positions? Ambrosius HAS to have some unresolved trauma from that. Did he even want to be a knight? I assumed her stepped down towards the end of the movie since we don’t hear anything about him or Ambrosius being knights.

Speaking of Ambrosius, he was written perfectly. You can tell he genuinely loves Bal, but has been brainwashed by The Institute. The moment he figures out that Bal didn’t do it he immediately said “screw The Institute”. So when he shows Bal the scroll, you can’t even get mad at him. Ballister would do the same thing if the rolls were switched. Also, him saying “You’ve worked harder than all of us,” really showed me he was a good guy from the get go. He acknowledges his own privilege and knows that Bal has had to work twice as hard to be seen as half as good.

The Squire was a surprisingly good character. If he knew who to go to, he probably would have given up the footage himself. But he didn’t, and he had to go against the word of The Institute, who’s basically a step below The Queen. I don’t blame him for not saying anything.

But listen, if people hated me for thousands of years because when I was 8 or so some kid my age decided I was a monster I would be LIVID. It’s a miracle Nimona turned out as nice as she did.

Also, NIMONA COMING BACK AT THE END?! I need to write and read fanfics of the wedding, the adoption, the adoption of more children, Ambrosius and Nimona having a moment. GET ON IN PEOPLE, I’LL DO IT WITH YOU!

Overall, best movie of the damn century. Disney WILL be kicking themselves.
