I don’t mind Ariel being black, because there’s various depections of various fairytales from all over the world.
I rember watching happily every after: fair tales for every child and they had an Asian little mermaid:
For the truth every fairy tale they told was very diverse!
-robin hood was a Hispanic woman named robinita hood
-goldielocks was Jamaican
-little red Riding Hood was Asian
-king midas from the story 'king midas and the Gildan touch' was African
The list could go on and on. Fairy tales have been told differently from person to person from all around the world, with differnt or similar out comes.
Like Disney's princess and the frog takes around 1920s America with tiana being black and her turning into a frog.
In many other versions of the princess and the frog, the princess could've been white or Asian and when she kissed the frog prince he couldve turned into a human, or he could turn into another animal, etc.,etc
I've also seen people saying what if we turn Mulan or Pocahontas into a white character.
Yes Disney made them in there movies, and yes much of the two movies are innacurate, but they did use them in there respectful place of orgin, since they are both real and historical figures in our society.
In all the little mermaid is just a fictional character! I'm not a big fan of Disney's live action movies, but I'm happy they are making there movies more diverse!
Thank you for listening to be Ted talk.
