You dont need a community of community builders to build a community. You dont need a culture of revolutionaries to build to something better.
Skateboarding culture is built out of DIY skateparks making use of unused public space. Not every skateboarder is building quarterpipes and ledges out of wood but the few that are benefit the entire skateboarding community.
Punk culture was defined by its lo-fi, grass-roots music industry. Not every punk had a recording studio in their bedroom but the entire community did benefit from the small group who did.
A community is built from a small group of pushers and doers. Change comes later.
"i could never do the thing" is an invitation for me to take you by the little hand and teach you on the spot.
take care you don't confuse "i don't know how to do that" with "i can't be arsed to do that" because there is a difference!

My Punk Tips for a DIY Lifestyle:
- Thrift some black fabric (or grab an old black shirt you don't care for anymore), get a white fabric marker, posca, sharpie, or paint and make a bunch of patches to sew onto your clothes.
- If you're a digital artist this is your time to shine! Make stencils, posters, design clothes (there are free templates online), and if you don't own a printer libraries will let you print for cheap and sometimes free. My library card allows me to print 10 pages for free.
- Reuse everything or if you don't want it anymore donate it or recycle it.
- Trash is very punk. Soda can tabs for instance can make for cool jewlery. It's all about creativity.
- Drug store makeup is your best friend and honestly they're sometimes better than the luxury name brand products. Or hell even make some of your own.
- If you need to order something I suggest etsy. Yes, some of it's expensive but you're supporting small artists and buissnesses rather than a corportation. It's also easier to find poc, queer, and neurodivergent buissnesses and artists.
- Overall punk is about being creative. Just get creative and have fun!
Remember there are 3 levels of thrifting and you will not be fantabulous at the bins the first time you go.
The Consigned stores hand pick items and you can find nicer stuff
the Secondhand stores organize everything
The bins are not curated but with the time commitment you can find amazing things
Also get creative not everything needs to be worn like intended
Finally be safe. Bins can get dirty so bring hand sanitizer and/or gloves and wash everything you get.

Idea: sew some cute little moths with scrap fabrics and sew them on holes you have on your clothes so you can keep wearing them :)
Thank you for the tag! That's such a lovely way to cover up holes in fabric.

Have you done a post on making bee houses? That's a good way to help the local insects without having to garden or do too much work
Prev anon, I just saw the post about making bee houses lol, very cool!

Can't believe half the year's flown by already, but I am still writing tutorials, a big personal goal for this year!
This tutorial is focused on miniature room dividers... specifically of two varieties (there are so many... I could have written a book honestly): the solid paneled type (which I painted), and the kind of see-through woven string type. They're very different vibes, but I love them both :)
I also show steps on creating your own miniature hinges, which is how this all started because I was not happy with the existing mini hinges on the market (the metal they're made from is always a little too thick :/).
ANYWAY, you can check out the tutorial here, happy crafting peeps.
