Jim Jinkins Hints Doug’ Sequel Series Being Cooked up For Disney+
Honk Honk, 90s kids will remember the hit animated series Doug originally premiering on Nickelodeon for four seasons as the first NickToon which later was acquired by Disney for 3 new season and a feature film.
Since 1999, Disney hasn't done anything with the Doug IP however that might change with a sequel series being all the rage, Disney is looking to do something with Doug Funnie and the gang after 24 years.
Original series creator, Jim Jinkins, revealed the suprising news with Tenn Buick. The concept right now is a potential sequel series of Doug and Patti Mayonnaise getting married with their own kids as the show will now focus on Doug’s kids, the series tentatively titled Doug Kids. The concept is still in early development so we likely won’t be hearing much from for awhile.
"Doug Kids" joins Disney TVA's recent reboot lineup with "DuckTales 2017", "The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder" Point Grey Pictures "Darkwing Duck", "Sofia The First: Royal Prep Academy" & "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse 2.0" with recent reports of potential "Recess", "Kim Possible" & "TaleSpin" reboots/revivals on development at early 2023.
In terms of his origins at Nickelodeon, "Doug Kids" will join the original 3 NickToons on getting reboots for the 2020s with Rugrats on Nickelodeon and Paramount+ and The Ren & Stimpy Show for Comedy Central.
