Today, Disney Jr. announced a series greenlight for “Sofia the First: Royal Magic” a continuation of “Sofia the First” and remains one of the most successful global preschool franchises for The Walt Disney Company. The spin-off got picked up for development back in November 2022 under the working title ("Royal Prep Academy")
“Sofia the First: Royal Magic” follows Sofia as she attends The Charmswell School for Royal Magic, where princes and princesses from across the EverRealm will continue their royal studies and also learn all types of magic. During her time at Charmswell, Sofia discovers she is the most magical princess in the realm and must learn how to master her powers while making new royal friends. Each episode will contain two 11-minute stories, each with a new original song. The sequel is created and executive produced by original series creator Craig Gerber. Ariel Winter (“Modern Family”), who voiced the role of Sofia, in the original series, is set to reprise her role. Additional casting will be announced at a later date. Many of the creative team from “Firebuds” are involved in this series, including Krystal Banzon as co-executive producer and story editor, Kris Wimberly as supervising director, and Craig Simpson as producer. The series is produced by Disney Television Animation. The new series is currently in production and is slated for a 2026 premiere on Disney Jr. and Disney+

At a new school specializing in royal magic, Sofia will learn how to master her magical abilities while discovering the power of friendship and teamwork from her new royal classmates. Animation Magazine Interviewed Playdate with Winnie The Pooh EP Elise Fachon where she discussed working for Disney Television Animation and Oddbot and how that lead her to showrun and Executive Produce "Playdate with Winnie The Pooh".
During the interview while asked about current projects she hinted that she's working on a new animated series based on a "popular property dear to her heart" likely a new series based on a legacy Walt Disney Animation Studios film.
One of my big projects is Playdate with Winnie the Pooh, which just made its premiere on Disney Junior and Disney Junior YouTube, but we have other shorts in development I’m also really excited about. Unfortunately, I can’t say much about them, but one is a property I’ve loved for a long time, and I’m really excited to share more about it once we’re further along.

Playdate with Winnie The Pooh opens #DisneyJuniorPlaydate at Disney's California Adventure as later today, Disney Branded Television unveiled the upcoming slate for Fall 2023-2025 of Disney Television Animation and Disney Junior Educational Resource Group for Disney Junior.
Disney Branded Television has greenlit a new animated series for preschoolers, “Disney Junior’s Ariel,” inspired by the beloved story of “The Little Mermaid.” The announcement was made today by Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, during the Annecy International Film Festival in Annecy, France.
While making the announcement, Davis said, “For more than 30 years, the story of ‘The Little Mermaid’ has been beloved by audiences all over the world. It brings me so much joy to be able to introduce our new Disney Junior version of Ariel to preschoolers everywhere.”
Ariel follows a young Ariel and features some fan-favorite characters, including King Triton, Ursula, Sebastian and Flounder, as well as exciting new additions. “Disney Junior’s Ariel” is set to debut on Disney platforms worldwide in 2024.
Set in the fantastical Caribbean-inspired underwater kingdom of Atlantica, the series follows Ariel as she embarks on fun-filled, action-packed mermaid adventures with her friends. Driven by a deep and unending curiosity about the world around her, Ariel discovers land treasures, like a big floppy hat, squeaky rubber ducky and whisk, that she collects and keeps safe in her crystal cavern. Sometimes, Ariel uses the treasures to help solve problems. With each discovery, Ariel is filled with joy, and her mermaid tail, which changes colors depending on her emotions, lights up and shimmers.
“Disney Junior’s Ariel” is executive produced by Lynne Southerland (Dreamworks Animation’s “The Road To El Dorado”). Norma P. Sepulveda (“Elena of Avalor”) and Keith Wagner (“TrollsTopia”) are the story editors. Ezra Edmond (“Disney+ Draw Me a Story”) is producer. Kuni Tomita Bowen (“Dora the Explorer”) is supervising director, and Chrystin Garland (20th Television Animation’s “Solar Opposites”) is art director. The series is produced by Wild Canary in association with Disney Television Animation for Disney Junior.
Full of charm, big ideas and a powerful voice, “Disney Junior’s Ariel” is coming into her own, learning how to discover and appreciate the world around her and use her voice to inspire others.Throughout the series, the multicultural diversity of the Caribbean is highlighted through music, food, festivals, fashion, language and folklore. Dr. Patricia Saunders, professor of English and hemispheric Caribbean studies and director of graduate studies at the University of Miami and author of two books, serves as cultural consultant on the series. Sean Skeete, chair of Berklee College of Music’s ensemble department, is the Caribbean music consultant.
At the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, Disney announced a brand new preschool original series for Disney+ & Disney Junior called “Magicampers”, which has been created by Obie Scott Wade. (The Hub Network’s “Shezow“)
“Magicampers” follows the adventures of best friends Darly and Loomis at a day camp for magical creatures on a fantastical island. Darly is half-pig and half-Pegasus, Loomis is half-donkey and half-unicorn, and their young friends are also mythical mashups of all stripes. Every day they go on incredible journeys of discovery and dream of becoming legendary, having their stories told and retold for all time. At the heart of the series, Darly and Loomis will learn that becoming a legend isn’t about mastering magic powers or winning the biggest prize — it’s about understanding and accepting yourself and others and working together with all kinds of friends.

At today’s “Next 100” presentation at the Annecy International Film Festival, Disney revealed a first look at the upcoming Disney Junior animated series, “Playdate with Winnie the Pooh”, which will debut this August in the U.S. on the Disney Junior channel and will then roll out globally on Disney+.
“Playdate with Winnie the Pooh” follows a young Pooh Bear as he enjoys playdates with his friends. Set in the exciting outdoors of the Hundred Acre Wood, these musical shorts emphasize collaborative play and the joy of spending time with others.
The new show is being directed by Jojo Ramos Patrick and produced by Greg Chalekian. Chris Hamilton is the executive producer on the show, and Elise Fachon is the co-executive producer.

I thought Disney was done with Pooh after the film with Ewan McGregor but they’re actually going through with another series, and reimagining him as an adorable kid!
I can’t tell you how happy this makes me that Disney’s not ready to say T.T.F.E. to Pooh and his friends yet.

The musical short-form series is currently going by the working title of “Winnie The Pooh”, so it is likely that the series is given a unique name before it launches.
Back on January 1st 2022 we reported that despite Pooh becoming now a public domain character,Disney will still use their own version of the character for future projects with a new project in the works for Disney+, it seems that project was this one

Back on 2015 popular Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon pitched a Winnie Pooh Reboot to Disney with a full animated pilot in hand, sadly in 2016 the pilot was passed, as much as we wish this new series of shorts is a revival of this idea, it seems that this willl be something different, probably done by Disney Television Animation, Disney Junior Educational Resource Group or Disney Europe Animation.
