despite being a fairly lighthearted story, dungeon meshi has the most realistic depictions of fantasy ive ever seen. apart from the characters, this is probably the most appealing part of this manga for me. kui just thinks of everything and i hope she just releases all the worldbuilding stuff on her blog one day as something official.

Hunh, honestly I read that as having a soul transferred into a cat.

This is how I'd imagine my boyfriend is at work, I love hearing his stories and vents when he gets home. I swear he has sassy halfling energy

I think my favourite concept in Dunmeshi is that... There is an urgency in most of us to sacrifice our peace of mind when push comes to shove. Perhaps to worry means that you care about the emergency at hand (whatever level of emergency that is subjectively) and we pinpoint focus on the task and everything else disappears. Our sleep and diet patterns change even though these activities are pivotal for our dopamine systems and functionally make us feel healthier and help us think clearer. It's self-punishing; the "grind" so to speak — to persevere we have to forget the self and think solely of the object.

But Dunmeshi doesn't let you get away with that. These people's friend is captive in a monster's body, their world is literally ending, and still they sit down to eat. To eat is to live. Only living things eat and it is the privilege of the living. Yes, there is a crisis. Yes they are upset and heartbroken and distressed. But they still focus on the food: the very thing that sustains you and gives you energy to think, to move, to keep going. A moment of gratitude offered to life by actually, consciously indulging in it. They aren't bad people for eating while Falin's suffering, no. It is simply unfeasible to give parts of yourself to a situation while hoping to gain twice as much back. Just take the time to make food, think about how delicious it looks, and eat. Even if you fail, you need to eat. Even if you succeed, you need to eat. You need to live life no matter what. You need to enjoy it no matter what. It is never "inappropriate" to just live your life.

I love it! But Falin has to be DM given Laios is the chosen one.

Do you guys ever think about how touch starved laios must been the first few episodes of dungeon meshi?

Okay, here me out.

Being touched starved is a big problem, especially for men, in our current society and the social interaction among men in dungeon meshi seems close enough to our own society that I bet it's a problem....

But I bet it's especially bad for laios after the red dragon eats falin....

Before they lost falin, I bet almost all the physical affection laios got was from Falin...because men are allowed to casually touch thier sisters for mutual reassurance. They can hug thier sisters or lean on them now and again. And it's okay...

But after they lose Falin, no one is going to touch Laios in reassurance. Instead they want things like a reasonable amount of personal space.

Chilchuck and senshi arent going to give laios casual touch because neither of them know him well enough to overcome the hight differences reasons. People tend to touch others upper body in casual reassurance and Chilchuck and senshi are just a little to short to do that unless laios is sitting down and or clearly destressed.

And laios can't touch them much because he doesn't know Senshi well enough and he knows chilchuck to well to try casually touching either man.

Marcille isn't going to touch Laios, she touched Falin all the time but not laios....why would she?

And then izutsumi comes and laios is thinking "I love cats!" And everyone else is saying "Laios stop touching the teenager girl"

And Marcille gets to cuddle Izutsumi, and Izutsumi sleeps on chilchucks bed roll with him. And she's small enough for senshi to give her shoulder pats. And Laios is sitting in the edge as the only one who can't touch or be touched.

And over time they all do touch each other more.....

But it must have been so hard at first.
