A screenshot recolour, because no way our boys are white. Wirt is Black, Greg is Black and Ojibwe via his father. The themes of the story could resonate so much better told through black- and indigenous-american experiences 🍄 (Beatrice’s family is Jewish for the same reasons, also bc I’m a black Jew and I said so.)
Hope this is okay to add but the eerie themes of OTGW are honestly so much more powerful from a black or native perspective, the heavyness of death lingering in the forest trees, cozy homes that don't feel very welcoming, ancestors gathering to celebrate despite the somber reality of being dead, Americas past is only comforting to people who were allowed to live in comfort back then, to everyone else it's inherently disturbing in a way that can't really be articulated or described to people who don't already see it that way
But OTGW captures it beautifully
