News - Unico: Awakening, the new re-imagining of Osamu Tezuka's classic Unico, will be getting a wide release in 2024 thanks to Scholastic's Graphix imprint! You may remember that last year, a Kickstarter was created for this manga (and that I interviewed Sam Sattin, the manga's author, here!). According to Sattin, those who backed the Kickstarter will still be getting their copies--and that the Kickstarter version will be a special edition, with materials included that will not be available in the Scholastic edition. This will be the first manga for Scholastic, which they're calling a new "touchstone" for their imprint.

Their press release also states that this is the start of a 4 book deal! So it sounds like we have more new Unico to look forward to in the future!

On June 6, 2024, a new 2 minute animated trailer for the upcoming Unico: Awakening was posted on Scholastic's YouTube channel.

The animation was done by Denver Jackson.

A description of the manga:

UNICO tells the incredible story of a young unicorn who, after enraging the evil goddess Venus, is banished from the heavens and forgets all he once was. Saved from oblivion by the kindhearted West Wind, Unico continues to help others, before having to escape Venus again and begin a new adventure.

I discovered several very old banners from the official Osamu Tezuka website archived on google images. Unfortunately, clicking on the source leads to a 404 page on the Tezuka website, if I had to guess, these are from the early 2000′s and or maybe even the late 90′s.
