So I made a moon landing cake…
Happy lunar landing day! I decided to spend some time baking and make a cake to celebrate! :)
It’s half vanilla and half chocolate cake with homemade buttercream and homemade wineberry jam in the middle- all the components I tasted along the way were delicious, so I’m looking forward to eating it tonight. (I’ll reblog this with more pictures later)

They sent Snoopy into space!! I drew him he looks so fly 🐜🐜
The biggest rocket NASA has ever launched, Artemis 1, is launching in 2 minutes! These rockets will hopefully take us back to the moon! So excited! NASA Stream here: https://youtube.com/watch?v=CMLD0Lp0JBg
September 21st, 2022 - Nasa James Webb Space Telescope
NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope shows off its capabilities closer to home with its first image of Neptune. Not only has Webb captured the clearest view of this distant planet’s rings in more than 30 years, but its cameras reveal the ice giant in a whole new light.
Most striking in Webb’s new image is the crisp view of the planet’s rings – some of which have not been detected since NASA’s Voyager 2 became the first spacecraft to observe Neptune during its flyby in 1989. In addition to several bright, narrow rings, the Webb image clearly shows Neptune’s fainter dust bands.
“It has been three decades since we last saw these faint, dusty rings, and this is the first time we’ve seen them in the infrared,” notes Heidi Hammel, a Neptune system expert and interdisciplinary scientist for Webb. Webb’s extremely stable and precise image quality permits these very faint rings to be detected so close to Neptune.

Webb’s latest image is the clearest look at Neptune’s rings in 30+ years, and our first time seeing them in infrared light. Take in Webb’s ghostly, ethereal views of the planet and its dust bands, rings and moons. (Some of these rings have not been detected since Voyager 2 flew by in 1989!)

Get the fuck out of my face this is the coolest shit i’ve ever seen, do you realize how lucky we are to bask in the scientific capabilities of NASA? Holy fucking hell I love science

Today You Learned: Snoopy is going to the Moon.
Apollo 10 Commander Thomas P. Stafford pats the nose of ‘Snoopy’, the Apollo 10 mission mascot, held by Jamye Flowers (astronaut Gordo Coopers’ secretary), as the crew walks along the hallway to the transfer van for their trip to Launch Complex 39B.

This red banner featuring the Snoopy character from the Charles M. Schultz cartoon “Peanuts” is a souvenir of the Apollo Program. Schultz allowed NASA to use the copyrighted character of Snoopy from his popular newspaper cartoon strip “Peanuts” as a part of NASA’s internal promotional campaigns to promote workplace safety, product quality, and focus on the overall mission. Snoopy’s frequent depiction as a pilot (notice his World War I flying ace scarf around his neck below his space helmet) lent itself to the character’s depiction as an astronaut.
This [red] banner, which was transferred to the National Collection from the Library of Congress in 1997, mostly likely originated as a part of NASA’s flight safety efforts.
Michael Collins died earlier today (Apr 28, 2021) surrounded by his family.
Collins was the pilot of the historic Apollo 11 mission to the moon. He stayed on the command module circling above the moon as Armstrong and Aldrin landed and left footprints on in the moon dust. He was dubbed the ‘Loneliest Man in History’ for the 48 minutes he spent cut off from anyone when he was on the far side of the moon without his crew mates.
He took the above picture of ‘every person in existence except’ himself once the lunar module departed.
After this mission he continued with the push for space exploration. He was 90 years old.
