Thinking about Machikado Mazoku and color coded magical girls.

For the uninitiated, lots of magical girl shows assign roles and personalities based on their color pallet.

Pink is always the leader

Yellow (or orange) is usually very bubbly and outgoing

And blue are the smart nerdy ones who are often very sweet and supportive.

In episode 1, Shamiko's mom was talking about magical girls and we saw this image

That is basically just Mikan, Momo and some other girl.

So I wonder who that blue girl is, or could eventually be.

I wonder what character is really smart

Really sweet

and really really supportive

oh no.

im so tired of vampires being the sophisticated, cultured creatures compared to, often blood thirsty and savage, lycanthropes. you know what i want? i want a story where lycanthropes are the mannered ones- centuries of well breeding, manners, and civility- and the vampires are the crackheads who smoke pot and drink blood slushees.

lycanthrope houses from across the globe and all manner of creatures; wolves, bears, buffalo, lions, reindeer, tigers, etc. sometimes! sometimes to combine two different houses, lycans marry each other and then produce offspring that carry different traits from each parental line- i.e., a wolf with antlers, a lion with stripes, a buffalo with claws and fangs, etc. (in my head, all this is fantastical and magic, so genetics don’t interfere with certain things). pure lycans (because sometimes a lycan will marry a human and produce offspring) are highly sought after for high skilled job positions; politicians, medical experts, investigative services, etc. because they have quickly-processing brains, sharp senses, and near perfect memory.

vampires, when compared, are the ones eating weird, and often dangerous, combinations of food and the party animals usually found with no shirt or shoes after a long night out.

just... give me cool and collected- but still fierce- lycans and high as fuck, weird vampires

It’s about the strange comfort of loss and alienation in americana.

A screenshot recolour, because no way our boys are white. Wirt is Black, Greg is Black and Ojibwe via his father. The themes of the story could resonate so much better told through black- and indigenous-american experiences 🍄 (Beatrice’s family is Jewish for the same reasons, also bc I’m a black Jew and I said so.)

Hope this is okay to add but the eerie themes of OTGW are honestly so much more powerful from a black or native perspective, the heavyness of death lingering in the forest trees, cozy homes that don't feel very welcoming, ancestors gathering to celebrate despite the somber reality of being dead, Americas past is only comforting to people who were allowed to live in comfort back then, to everyone else it's inherently disturbing in a way that can't really be articulated or described to people who don't already see it that way

But OTGW captures it beautifully

I’ve been thinking about places to live, in the desert and in generally hotter climate, and the idea of underground houses seemed like a good one. For now, here is a stairwell leading down to such a house, complete with tiny greenhouse. It has translucent solar panels as glass, which still let the red light through that plants need most.

KIPO and the Age of Wonderbeasts is AMAZING and why more people should be talking about it!!

I know this isn’t my main for animated series BUT I just watched KIPO and let me tell you it’s so good??? It’s not netflix but for some reason there’s been NO promo at all so i’m changing that!!

ALL main characters are poc (or a bug or a pig)

Kipo is half asian half black (and purple but that’s just an extra bonus imo), Wolf is black and Benson is brown/black/of unknown heritage (as far as I know)

Also???

Benson is gay and he just straight up SAYS so

Like, “Ya I’m gay” no hinting, no stereotypes no beating around the bush, he’s just gay that’s it and the entire scene is super natural? 

It has giant megadogs

And they’re super cute. So many mutes are super cute

Wolf’s backstory and connected character arc are AMAZING and she has so much more room for growth

Like, I don’t want to spoil anything but this four feet tall girl has issues BUT She’s not just a “though as nails” archetype, she’s a real person who’s carrying a really difficult past with her and her whole character journey is so satisfying!!

There’s like a hundred more reasons like singing woodcutter cats and lesbian rock and roll snakes and nerd wolves that make musicals titled “everything we know about the universe so far” but you’ll just have to see that for yourself!! Please watch this show it deserves more attention and a second season!

I just found out about Jucika and it seems to have grown a lot in popularity. Can’t find much about this comic other than on the hungarian wikipedia but this style and character looks very cute.
