Some belated photos from the "Fashioned by Sargent" exhibit at the MFA Boston. My pictures just don't do it justice! I'm not one for hyperbolics, but it literally took my breath away, even with the crowds of people everywhere.

  1. evening dress by the House of Worth (c.1880); owned by Sarah Choate Sears, who Sargent painted in another dress in 1889
  2. reflection of Ellen Terry as Lady Macbeth (1889); costume designed by Alice Comyns Carr and created by Ada Nettleship
  3. evening dress with matching shoes by the House of Worth (c.1895)
  4. Mrs. Charles E. Inches (Louise Pomeroy) (1887); dress made in 1887 and likely altered 1902. Louise was pregnant at the time of her portrait, and if you look very closely, you can see the dress skirt has adjustable panels to accommodate a changing body.

3a. The shoes are from L. Perchellet, who sold elegant shoes on the Place Vendome in Paris. They were made to match a different dress that’s now faded in the MFA, Boston collection.

The small iridescent green embellishments on the second dress are jewel beetle elytra (the shell covering their wings). Here are some details from other pieces:

Hedy Lamarr’s ‘peacock dress’, designed by Edith Head, for “Samson and Delilah”, 1949. I heard the feathers were gathered from the grounds of Cecil B. DeMille’s estate.

Oh my goodness! Gorgeous! I would wear this around my house every day while drinking my coffee and reading my cards! Thank you for sharing with me @velvtangelreboot ! 🫶🏼💙💕

I have so much fun working on this and the transition from sketch to lineart was actually quite smooth the only thing that was a bit difficult was robotgirl actually. I had her battle suit at 1st and then I realized I didn't want that so I went with her standard form since it was more recognizable And it was a little tricky but I got the hang of it and I think she came out looking adorable and of course Lola looks so cute I always love her outfit as a kid I think that shade of blue looks amazing on her

Now onto a mini rant of sorts.....

They should have made Lola Robotgirl's official caretaker😤 (They also should have had her on there for the entire show after her debut but I digress😒) She was already more comfortable with her than with anybody else and robot boy would have an official fighting partner and Lola could have gotten more screen time and even solo episodes where it's them solving the crime, all in all very cute intelligent girls and the writers just wasted their potential in the story
