Happy 95th Anniversary to Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse!!!!

While some of the Daisy’s Diary series from the 1950s/60s is a hot mess of sexism, most of the Bob Gregory written stories (art usually by Carl Barks) are actually great well-fleshed out stories with Daisy. I’ll be posting a bunch of them because I feel like so often people think that she’s just this one-dimensional, materialistic nag. And while yes she certainly has been portrayed that way far too often, there are some gems out there showing the Daisy Duck I know and love.

Starting off with A Sticky Situation from 1960 because I feel like a good old Daisy-rant about the patriarchy is a good start to this.

Happy late birthday, April, May and June Duck!

Forgive me for this, considering that I was not present when it was certainly a famous jubilee. Yes, the 70th anniversary of the first appearance of Daisy's nieces, April, May and June Duck. Even though it has passed, I will definitely make a separate post about this.

They first appeared in the comic "Flip Decision" by Carl Barks and that comic was published on June 30, 1952. Although they got a minor role and were with Donald's nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie, like Donald with Daisy Duck, will definitely have good roles after that. Just as Donald's nephews are members of the Junior Woodchucks, Daisy's nieces are members of the Chickadees as a girl scout group. They appeared a few times in the Barks comics and did not appear after that. However, they appeared again in the Italian comics and later in the Don Rosa comics. In 1998, April, May and June changed their appearance, especially the way they wore their hair, and became more individual than before. Yes in Dutch comics under a special edition called "Duckies". They appeared for the first time in animation in House of Mouse and in the episode "Ladies Night" where they play in a band, but unfortunately nothing more than that. They get a real role in The Legend of The Three Caballeros, where they are assistants to the Three Caballeros and the goddess Xandra and they really had a great role, even though they were similar, they had different personalities between them. All in all, they appeared a lot in many European and Brazilian comics and were both mischievous and very good to their Aunt Daisy, who, like Donald to his nephews, is also a good parent to his nieces. Yes, Daisy's nieces are Donald's nephews' girlfriends in some comics, and Donald's nephews' sisters in some comics, in the sense that Donald's nephews who have a mother Della is Daisy's brother's wife. There is certainly a lot to say about it, but this is enough. Even though it's been a long time, I certainly wish them a happy belated birthday and a happy 70th anniversary! And I hope Daisy's nieces make more appearances in both cartoons and comics. And now pictures of Daisy's nieces from the beginning to the present day.

Happy Late or Early Birthday to Daisy’s nieces

I know we usually all love when Daisy is with Donald. However, I don't think that's the best thing about her, but that she can be very good with children. Primarily with her nieces, April, May and June Duck, then with Donald’s nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck. Certainly, although she is their aunt, she is also a great parent. And the love couple between Donald and Daisy isn’t complete if they don’t have kids, so it’s certainly good that Donald has great nephews, while Daisy has great nieces. And in one classic short Donald and Daisy as a married couple have one son named Donald Junior.

Yes, I am announcing this on the occasion of Daisy’s birthday, which is celebrated on June 7th. On June 7, 1940, Daisy Duck appeared in the classic short Mr Duck Steps Out and since then the romance between Donald and Daisy has begun. I know it wasn’t perfect in cartoons and in comics between the two, but I love when they have similar personalities and when their relationships are very comical. Certainly what unites them, in addition to that, are that they are superheroes, but more importantly, that they are great parents for their nieces and nephews. Daisy’s nieces are also celebrating their 70th anniversary since their first appearance. So happy birthday to them too. Once again, happy birthday, Daisy Duck!

Happy Early Birthday Daisy Duck

I felt like drawing the three caballeros, Mickey, Minnie, and Daisy again based on an idea I had a couple of weeks back and also tried drawing Clarabelle Cow as well.

A sock hop Daisy Duck I drew tonight. This has to be one of my favorite outfits to draw her in! She does look very cute in this outfit.  

Fun fact/Trivia: This is based on an outfit she wore during the Halloween season on the now defunct Toontown online game that I just had to draw. In addition, this has also been another fun outfit to draw her wearing in the past.

Whatever Happened to Daisy’s Temper?

Answer: It’s there, just repurposed. 

Disney has always presented Daisy as the milder of the mad ducks, but her temper rivals, occasionally surpassing, Donald’s.

Usually, this temper is directed at Donald, as some sort of consequence beyond his control, for jokes.

However, instead of having Donald suffering the brunt of Daisy’s temper, Ducktales reworks it that while she has a temper, Daisy doesn’t direct it at anyone, preferring to lash out on inanimate objects when she’s able to.

Until…you hurt someone she cares for.

Gonna point out not even Della has gotten the red flare of doom. Granted, Donald’s anger literally consumes his head in red, but this is pretty notable, knowing Della’s temper is potentially close (if not equal) to Donald’s.

DuckTales keeps Daisy’s temper, one of her most defining traits, and reconstructs it into a force of protection, almost identical to Donald’s. Rather than have her direct her anger at Donald for something he did or did not do, the show redirects her rage at people who have harmed Donald, the man she’s irrefutably fallen for. 

Daisy utilizes her rage to protect her loved ones, and that now includes Donald.

This is the moment he falls in love for her. Completely, absolutely in love with Daisy Duck.

I am looking extremely forward to Daisy’s future appearances in this show. I was already in love with Daisy, but I’m even more in love with Daisy. Deeper in love. Crazy in love.

Freaking. Exactly.

That’s what has made iffy about Daisy’s character in past iterations of her characterization being that she’d take her temper out on Donald. There were points where it was obviously justified due to his bad temper making him act out and needing to be dressed down for it, but there are also other scenarios where I just couldn’t comprehend why Donald would still be in a romantic connection with someone that treats him this badly when stuff was out of his control in different cases. I know that Donald’s bad luck is supposed to be a running gag of course, which is why those unfortunate moments happen where Daisy doesn’t give him time to explain something that wasn’t his fault and face unfair consequences for it, but that kind of writing is a hard balancing act to pull off without it feeling mean spirited for the sake of showing Donald has terrible luck.

I’ve never hated Daisy as a character per say, but Minnie I’ve always preferred in the past for how wholesome her romance with Mickey could be in general. Minnie was a very understanding individual, who also had her limits when Mickey would do things she didn’t morally care for either. They’ve been the better romantic couple who’d come out on top in my mind every time I’d compare them to Donald & Daisy’s chemistry, overall. However, this iteration of Daisy’s chemistry with Donald in the reboot has put them on equal footing now.

DuckTales (2017) has balanced out her character in the best way possible, by having Daisy better control this iconic temper where, much like Donald, she doesn’t take it out on decent people, but those who actually really deserve to bring that wrath of her raw anger upon themselves. Daisy does dress him down for the scheme interfering with her own plans, but never goes too far with that. Hell, she even takes time outta her already stressed out day to listen to someone, who technically still plays a part in being the reason why Daisy’s more irritated, attempt to perform in getting their band into Glamour’s party event. That’s what I call a healthy relationship right there and I totally support it.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing what other content they’ll have for Donald and Daisy’s chemistry playing out when they interact more with the other family members of Clan McDuck.

Drawing Daisy in a reporter’s outfit suddenly turned into making a reporter’s AU. Then after that I tried designing Quack Pack inspired outfits for the triplets, Webby, May, and June. 

With that being said, this is now become another new AU that I have made so far. Definitely expect more stuff like this in the near future! Soon I’ll be working on the outfits for the other characters.
