Writing a Shizuma fic has proven to be 90% me staring at the doc page going "Does he hero worship Kisame + Itachi, follow them around like a toddler at his big age of 14 staring at Samehada with grabby hands, or is he low key scared of them." and I think the answer is just yes.
Kind of interesting to me that for all Shizuma's big talk and dramatic scenes where he betrays his comrads, he never actually kills any of them. To the point where it 100% can and will bite him in the ass.
Like. He slit a comrads throat. But clearly not as severely as he could have. It was shallow enough that a beginner healer like genin Sarada was able to fix it / or at least not deep enough that the entire squad had time to mosey on out of the warehouse after it was done + for Sarada to find him later without him bleeding out. Not to mention him fully walking around, carrying Sarada on his back if I remember right, talking to himself on and on despite just having his throat split that morning. Dude was borderline fine afterwards. Which would have been so avoidable if Shizuma just cut deeper or waited for him to bleed out before leaving him.
Then with Buntan. He poisons her to ensure his escape from prison. But like. Clearly not well enough considering she's still kicking months later + fully ready to go on her revenge arc to kick his ass for betraying her. That one is arguable because it could just be a matter of what poison he could get ahold of + he likely needed a slow poison if he wanted the gaurds occupied for longer but. Idk. You would think he'd go for something that would leave her immobilized or pernament damage to avoid the eventual repercussions of his betrayal.
Like I can't tell if he's just. Not as ruthless as he thinks he is. And it's just another example of him being a kid wanting to play war without understanding what that really entails.
If it's a speck of hesitance leaking through, 'weakness' he's still not admitted that keeps leading to the survival of his victims.
A direct show of his disrespect for his former comrads. Him leaving them to die without even bothering to form a memory of the ordeal. Considering they all share the sentiment that being forgotten is one of the cruelest fates. A final fuck you in the form of I Don't Care If You Live Or Die.
Or just sheer gods damned inefficiency on his part 💀😭
The only real argument for Shizuma not being Kisame and Itachi's son is that the boy would not have shut up about it if he was /hj
Was discussing it with my friend and apparently the thought of Shizuma's gills fluttering when he's excited "Isn't cute" so. Looking for better friends. Bc what is that hater shit.
Was rewatching the Shizuma arc and.
Kisame and Itachi are never beating the allegations.
Shizuma was for sure a gameboy kid
Hey so uh.
Do Hoshigaki fucking develope gills as they mature.
Or does Shizuma draw his gills on / did he have them tattooed or something???
Because I was looking at screenshots of him. And the little fucker didn't have them when he was 14-16ish???
Either the animators hated my boy or he realized he wanted to be a villain at age 16 and went "Hm. Gotta fix this NPC look if I want to be taken seriously when I threaten to behead people."
Never forgiving Boruto for introducing a sick ass interesting villain only to get bored 3 episodes later.
Never forgiving Boruto for introducing him in a (arguably?) filler arc leaving me with little gods damned hope of ever seeing him again.
Never forgiving Boruto for making him live on the other side of the gods damned ocean from the main cast.
Never forgiving Boruto for not at least letting his character disappear or die with grace.
Me: Oh wow so they're going to dive into the after effects of peace finally falling over a conflict-based economy and society. Cool, cool that's a fun route to take.
That way all the hard work the cast of Naruto went through to maintain peace isn't in vain but it still gives a conflict to focus on for the opening of this show.
Oh, the hiarchy has been effected by the 4th Shinobi World War and subsequent peace? That makes sense. The people who helped in the war are held high in honor while the ones who previously upheld the Bloody Mist are now of lower standing since having a threatening aura is no longer as beneficial for the village. Interesting.
So this kid is mad because his clan, a formerly respected and feared leading power behind the bloody mist, is now regarded as a dirty secret of the state to be forgotten. His clan, which once was revered as something to be respected, has now been scrubbed from the history books and had their fucking memorial stones destroyed. Because the mist wants to be Better and Above its gory past. And believes the only way to do that is by hiding it.
So the kid is angry and feels wronged as a member of this clan. He has been raised in a world that treats him and his lineage as trash, only to find out a mere decade ago he would have been treated well.
Naive to the actual struggles of the bloody mist, he wants it to return, chasing after the concept of regaining a place he feels has been stolen from him. Going so far as to copy long-gone shinobi of the past by finding their children / grandchildren and trying to convince them all to recreate the swordsmen of the mist. To claim what he feels is their rightful place. He wants to carve out a spot for himself and others that this new society have deemed unworthy of being remembered, let alone existing. What an interesting and unique motive.
The show, last minute, realizing they need to finish the school fieldtrip arc: uh yeah actually big reveal, he's just bloody thirsty like his elder clansmen. The mizukage was right to order the vandalism of his clans graves, he actually doesn't care about anything but fighting, and also he is trash because of who he is as a person not because he's been conditioned to believe that's the only way he might have ever had any worth in any time period. We don't have time for all that. So. Villain defeated and the Konoha kids are on their way back home ☺️🎉
I like playing this fun little game where I use Orochimaru as an excuse every time I want to merge two characters without making things terribly OOC.
Kisame and Itachi? 0% chance of them having a kid. They’d never. But if Orochimaru wanted to make a nice lil sharingan-wielding vessel for himself? A little backsy upsy incase Sasuke is Sasukeing a little too close to the sun? Mmm.
Shizuma 🤝 Sasuke:
Hey, village- I noticed something pretty messed up about your system and it’s hurting me/my clan-
Village:
Shhhhhhh no one cares you’re both horrible and possessed by evil Shizuma 🤝 Sasuke: ...
Half the Boruto fandom: No!!! Kisame doesn’t have a son, they’re related by clan!!!
Other half of the fandom: Haha the lying shark-man is Kisame and Itachi’s love child.
