shoba_narayan: “Look into your eyes and the sky’s the limit” 💕
We are speaking of most ordinary things…
Yet, I feel closer to you than I ever had with any other man.
“What’s happening is really special. Someone like me, of my ethnic background, playing a leading lady on Broadway, is something I’ve personally never seen and is really meaningful. Growing up, I didn’t see a lot of me represented in the mainstream arts and media…Today, TV and film has made moves towards South Asian representation but Broadway has been a little bit behind. I long for the day where it’s not a rare thing to have a South Asian female star in a Broadway show. I’m so looking forward to that.”

HAVE YOU GUYS LISTENED TO FIRST BURN BY THE FIVE CURRENT ELIZAS?
All of the different Elizas are amazing but today I want to honour one of them in particular, Shoba Narayan because HOLY SHIT THERE IS AN INDIAN ELIZA!! As a fellow Indian girl who adores singing and musicals, I was so happy to find that she was on the track even though I had no idea who she was before this but now I know and I looked more into her credits and filmography. Also I have been binge scrolling through Tumblr about the Philip Company and honestly she makes a perfect Eliza.
Also Shoba if you ever read this I just want to say thank you for being you and giving me a Indian Broadway role model to look up to and holy smokes I’m so happy we have the same voice range so I can sing your parts to my heart’s content without hating myself hahaha and this drawing is for you to honour you as the Philip Company’s new Eliza and for bringing a magical sound to First Burn. (I also apologise for kind of messing up I know this isn’t the best)
Also before any of you can drag me for it, I only realised I had drawn the wrong dress halfway through the colouring but I like this one compared to the nightie. And yes I know Eliza’s hair is supposed to be super straight and tied in a ponytail but I let it lose and be wavy for a reason. Final Burn Eliza might be restrained hence the ponytail but First Burn Eliza is not. I also made the choice to make it wavy cos we Indians do not have straight hair and I wanted to reflect that hahaha.
Anyways I hope yall like this tribute as much as I enjoyed drawing it! I might make a series of this with all the ladies because I have fave bits they sang from each of them!
