President Roosevelt in his wheelchair at Hyde Park, 1941. Roosevelt was very careful about not being seen in public in his wheelchair, as he believed that it would cause doubt about his ability to hold public office. The press tended to cooperate with Roosevelt's request, and this picture is one of only two known. Even unfavorable political cartoons depicted Roosevelt with mobility, showing the deep reverence held towards the president.

President Abraham Lincoln's dog, Fido. Fido lived with the Lincoln's in Springfield, but was given away shortly after Lincoln's election because he was observed to not like the sound of cannons that were shot to mark Lincoln's inauguration. Fido was brought to the White House to greet mourners following Lincoln's assassination, and was unfortunately killed himself by a drunk man.
Faith the cat was awarded a special medal "for steadfast courage in the Battle of London," 1945. Faith was an abandoned cat who found refuge in St. Augustine's Church in London. She had a kitten, Panda. During the days prior to the Battle of London, she moved Panda to the basement, which enabled them to survive the bombings of the city.
