"Is there any way that you could please get your boyfriend off our backs today?" Connie huffs, falling onto the bench next to Jean.
"Seriously, what's his deal?" Jean asks, wincing in pain.
"Guys I don't know what's going on. He's been ignoring me all day." You tell them, sitting down on the floor to help first Jean and then Connie take off their boots, getting thanks from both of them.
You feel bad, but Levi won't even look at you today.
"What did you do to him?" Armin comes to sit on the floor next to you, using you as a head rest. He hasn't had it quite as bad as Jean and Connie but he's still running on empty.
"Me? Nothing. We're fine, yesterday we made plans and when I went to his office this morning he'd left me a note calling it off." You give Armin your water bottle which he gladly accepts.
"Well, something happened." Connie insists.
Problem is, you don't know what.
You know things were fine the night before, so it must've been something today. It started when you couldn't find him and realized he'd left you hanging, which was very unlike him, so you thought maybe he'd just gotten busy early. Then when you did find him, not only did he literally walk away when he saw you, but he was wearing his eye patch, which was extremely rare and only happened if he was outside in the sun a lot, which he wasn't.
"Kirstein! Springer! Arlert!" Jean and Connie groan and start lacing their boots back up.
"So much for that." Connie almost cries.
"Hide me." Armin begs you.
"What the hell are you three doing?" Levi demands, coming to stand by the group.
You know you haven't done anything, and neither have they, so why is he being so harsh?
You stand and clear your throat. "Hey, Levi-" But the words won't come out when Levi whirls around to give you a hard stare that you don't think you've ever received. Not before you were together, and most certainly not now.
"Is there something you need?" He questions sternly.
You actually gulp and the boys are wide-eyed at hearing how cold he speaks to you.
"No." You shake your head and decide it won't help any to push him.
Armin gives you a sympathetic look and Jean pats your shoulder before they and Connie go off to whatever torture is in store for them.
Now you sit on the bench yourself, trying to figure out what's going on.
Later in the day you continue working on your own tasks and send good thoughts to the boys, hoping things have settled down.
"Hey." Mikasa is calling to you.
"Hi. What's up?" You haven't seen her since this morning.
"I talked to the guys and wanted to come find you." She heard about what was going on.
"Well, no, but it will be." Mikasa tells you.
"I don't understand. Have I done something?" You ask woefully.
Mikasa shakes her head. "No, you haven't. It's just, not a good day."
You're just as confused. Mikasa seems to know something you don't. You and Levi have known each other a few years, and though you've only been officially together a little while, you thought he was opening up to you. In fact, you know he has, but apparently there are things he still wouldn't talk to you about.
Mikasa sighs. It's not for her to say, really, but it seems Levi doesn't know how to tell you, and it isn't fair to you to think it's your fault.
"It's the anniversary, of his friends death." She explains about Isabel and Farlan and how he's never forgiven himself and has a difficult time every year on this day.
"You know Levi, he blames himself for a lot of things that are out of his control. Don't be too upset with him."
You do know that, and are thankful Mikasa has clued you in. You had only known a little about the situation before this.
"No, of course not." It pains you to know that Levi still tries to deal with this alone, after all this time, and you hope you can do something for him.
"Hey, don't tell the guys." They didn't need to know every detail about their Captain.
"I'll just tell them he's having a bad day, they'll understand." It wouldn't be the first time.
It's not long before you run into them, and even knowing why Levi has been acting this way, still feel bad when you see they're about to drop dead.
Mikasa takes care of them while you try to find Levi. He's not in his office or mess hall or anywhere you might normally find him, so if he's inside there's just one other place you can think of.
Knocking on his bedroom door you get no answer, but push it open anyway hoping he's here.
"Levi?" You frown while standing in the doorway. There he is, curled up in his bed, not even bothering to change clothes.
He shifts and sits up, barely turning your way.
You bite your lip. He's even still wearing the eye patch. You hate that he's feeling this bad.
