The problem is that America has beaten down its people for decades and gotten them weak and desperate and now promises a way out, a way to transcend and rise above, through selling out their fellow man. They encourage contempt and hatred as one way ticket to not being included with the masses being death marched to poverty or imprisonment or whatever other bitter end surely awaits the people they’re told are beneath them. An embarrassingly large chunk of white men are just straight up nazis these days as a way to dissociate from the rest of the carnage around them, even if they’re broke and uneducated and from an impoverished background themselves. They’ll vote for and align themselves with anything for a taste of power and control that makes them feel a little less helpless. The same goes for minorities. They’ll punch down if they think it’ll get them somewhere, even if in reality they’re punching sideways. I don’t know what else to say, really. Everybody is so incredibly hateful. We are a loveless, disrespectful nation. We are so spread thin by our government that we would sell each other out in a heartbeat for an ounce of relief. This is what we’ve come to.
It’s not even about Trump at this point. He’s gonna get in office and do whatever he does and it’s gonna be a mess but whatever. This is indicative of deeper problem. This is just the ugly consequence of the already present reality in this country that we all just despise each other. There is no solidarity and there is no love. Trump being in office or not doesn’t change the fact that America is a breeding ground for violent hatred. Trump has given people a shining example of how to give in to the worst parts of your human nature and make it the problem of everyone around them. I don’t even know what we’re supposed to do about that. I don’t know if that’s something we can come back from. And if anything COULD be done about it, Trump certainly wouldn’t do it. Honestly, Kamala probably wouldn’t have either. We are so deeply fucked.
However, I must say, if you voted for Trump, I hope that peace never finds you. Instead, I hope clarity strikes you someday like a clap of lightning and you have to live the rest of your life with the knowledge and guilt of what you’ve done and who you are as a person.
Love yall. Shit is so bleak but the world keeps spinning until it doesn’t, I guess. We can’t count on the government for literally even a shred of progress or hope so just keep up the good fight in your own personal lives. That’s literally the only thing to be done at this point. Stay safe out there. Maybe buy a gun.

I love love love this! I’m sorry in advance if this doesn’t really make sense, I have a hard time explaining things sometimes. Also I’m making a separate post just because there’s a comment text limit BUTTT
The short oversimplified answer is Tiktok is what Tumblr used to be
The long answer is complicated. One reason (which I suspect is the biggest reason) is that TikTok is now one of (if not THE) biggest platform for fandom content of any kind. No matter how niche the interest is, guarantee there is at least two other people on that app that enjoy the same thing you do if not as much or more than you. TikTok overtime (at least in my opinion) has become almost a mutation hybrid of Tumblr and Vine.
TikTok is essentially the perfect breeding ground for fandom culture. You can make a video anywhere from 15 seconds to 10 minutes long on any topic you want, or post a combination of photos, or write a wall of fan fiction or really any text and the algorithm 9/10 times will push that shit directly to the right audience. The algorithm is designed to show you what you want and to keep you on the app for as long as possible, so naturally it makes building a fandom or community incredibly easy. Not to mention how human everything feels. One of the main reasons there are so many influencers and celebrities on TikTok is because of how easy it is to be “relatable” to the masses. Soooo many agencies and managers and companies push their clients/employees to be on TikTok because of how easy it is to connect with people on a somewhat deeper level as compared to other platforms. Not to mention, TikTok’s restrictions and content policies are 8/10 times VERY lenient really adding fuel to the OG Tumblr comparison (porn gifs included of course).
With all that being said, the “Ethel Cain Fandom” on TikTok isn’t necessarily bad, a lot of the people in that community are super nice and seem to have a genuine appreciation for Hayden and her artwork. The issue is when it bleeds out into other communities and individuals who then get a VERY select and minimal taste of Hayden’s work who become lukewarm fans of her work. Which, again, there’s nothing wrong with that scenario in of itself but when you combine that with stan culture it creates the whole Perverts “controversy”. So a major reason why they dont all just pack up and leave to Tumblr is because its not the actual fandom itself. It’s like a city, Ethel Cain USA isn’t the issue, it’s the suburb people surrounding who rarely traverse into the city unless its for work.
Another reason is that a LOT of the fandom on TikTok is young (early 20s and younger). That’s not to say that there aren’t young people on Tumblr, but a majority of them on TikTok would never even think to get on Tumblr, as they just missed prime Tumblr. To them, TikTok is what Tumblr was at it’s height. Also, with so many of them being young they might have parents who oversee and monitor their online presence (as they should) and might not allow them to get Tumblr because unfortunately it does have a reputation of being the freaky ass porn site 💔

What’s frustrating about the whole Perverts title issue is that it really boils down to people sticking their noses where it doesn’t belong. If everyone minded their damn business on the internet this wouldn’t even have to be a conversation. Its ok to be a lukewarm fan of someone, but I think TikTok has made it feel like you either have to stan someone and be a keyboard warrior in their defense 24/7 or you can’t like them at all. The whole “debate” gets to a point where it feels like im talking to a wall! Even if you didn’t listen to the rest of the album, you have to scroll to find Strangers! Did you not see the literal song titled August Underground on the way there! Hard Times is about CSA! Strangers is literally about her getting eaten! She literally gets cannibalized! I feel that maybe perchance the whole concept of Preacher’s Daughter should be more shocking then an album called PERVERTS
and I know, i knowwww, this has something to do with those motherfuckers on booktok romanticizing every sick and abusive asshole thats somewhat conventionally attractive. I’m sorry but correct me if im wrong but Strangers (at least to me) is not a love song. While Ethel may have loved him and while she may not feel hatred or resentment towards him lets be honest he did not eat her because he loved her, he did it because he is a bad person who does bad things and took advantage of a girl who has known nothing other than abuse. He groomed her and moved her across the country only to drug her and pimp her out and then when he was bored of her he killed and ate her.
I’m just so sick and fucking tired of these stupid ass motherfuckers thinking that they have the media literacy of Jesus H. Christ himself and that think they’re sooo fucking smart when in reality all you have done is taken a BEAUTIFUL and HEARTBREAKING piece of ARTWORK and watered it down for mass consumption. All you’ve done is slapped a pretty little label on it and put it on a shelf to sell to the masses and now the meaning and intention behind it will wither away. Don’t get me wrong, I love TikTok, I think it’s a great place to learn and share and create and find new interests but it gets to a point where it feels like its just a giant cesspool of braindead people talking about how a wood flooring is so “ethel cain lana del rey coquette naturecore maximalist anti-millennial grey girl boss power move”

hayden on the other hand actually takes her time to make good music she and others can connect with. the span of when she started writing preachers daughter to when she put it out she put out sad music for sad people, changed her artist name, put out carpet bed, put out golden age, then inbred, THEN preachers daughter..like i don’t understand why people say hayden takes too long to make music like of course she does it’s cuz she fucking CARES ABOUT MAKING GOOD MUSIC!!

can you explain « he was a natural plauché » and what it means in punish ?
the og concept for perverts was a character study about different “perverts”, inspired by reading knockemstiff. a sex addict, a pedophile, an arsonist, a sedative addict, etc. the project is completely different now but punish and amber waves are the only surviving demos from it so they’re still about that. punish is about a pedophile who was shot by the child’s father and now lives in exile where he physically maims himself to simulate the bullet wound in order to punish himself. at least that’s what i had in mind i wrote it. the song can be whatever you want it to be.
