if i see one more post accusing neil gaiman of queerbaiting good omens fans even though

  1. he’s said that he wants LGBTQIA+ fans to feel valid in interpreting aziraphale and crowley however they want to for the past three decades
  2. neil has repeatedly and publicly said that he supports interpretations of A&C being in love, queer, trans, nb, or a-spec its just that labeling their love is difficult because they’re divine beings not contained by human ideals of romance and gender
  3. that tweet going around of neil saying that fans were “reading too much into” A&C’s relationship was only a partial screencap of a longer tweet in which neil was supporting queer interpretations of his characters but no one on this site has reading comprehension or the ability to use google so everyone saw the incomplete text of the tweet and assumed neil was being homophobic when in reality that couldn’t be further from the truth
  4. the book good omens was published in the year 1990 when it was much more risky to display openly queer characters in media than it is now
  5. the show good omens was made as a memorial to co-author terry pratchett who died in 2015, so obviously, making significant changes to the plot gaiman and pratchett wrote together would be full of emotional hardship and grief for neil gaiman who is no doubt extremely upset that he is making this adaptation without terry alongside him. of course he isn’t going to deviate from the book since terry can’t approve the changes.
  6. there are a million ways to show love between two characters that don’t involve kissing or sex and good omens used every single one of them between aziraphale and crowley
  7. good omens already has many radical messages outside of A&C’s relationship (it’s literally a book philosophizing on the dangers of war and protracted conflict and questioning our understanding of christian theology. it also includes issues of feminism, anti-capitalism, climate change and pollution, and nuclear disarmament.) which cannot be ignored especially in todays political climate and to pretend that this show is as problematic as others i could mention just because neil won’t call two genderless creatures gay is reductive and frankly insulting

im calling the fucking cops

-signed a queer non-binary person who has been a fan of this book for over 5 years and won’t put up with any more fake woke tumblr bullshit from people who cant be bothered to do their research

There’s something very nice about remembering fics you read years ago. Maybe you remember the plot perfectly, maybe the rest of the fic is only a blur aside from a handful of vivid scenes, but you remember the way it made you feel. And sometimes you dredge up the memory - the premise or a favourite scene or a few lines that stayed with you -  and your heart aches a little bit, the way it does when you think about books you enjoyed as a child.

To all the fanfiction writers out there: your work is beautiful and meaningful and it leaves an impact. I promise.

Could you imagine being Voldemort’s brother if you weren’t at all interested in his genocide, and have to spend all of your time proving to everyone else that you don’t support what he’s doing?

Even worse, imagine being his identical twin. So you not only have to prove that you’re not like him, but also that you’re literally not him.

I’m just picturing this kind of lame, not super interesting guy. His name is something pedestrian, similar to Tom. Something like Bob. Bob Riddle. He was probably a Hufflepuff. He’s got some low-level job, like as a Welcome Wizard at St. Mungo’s. His love life is non-existent, because the only people who want to date someone who looks exactly like Voldemort are the kind of people who marry convicted serial killers.

But Bob’s unexciting life is constantly made exciting by people throwing stuff at him, cursing at him, literally cursing him, and/or arresting him on a daily basis.

The Daily Prophet constantly speculates about whether or not he actually does support Voldemort, and the Quibbler says he doesn’t exist at all, that Bob is actually just Voldemort trying to earn minimum wage so as to sponsor his genocide. Media headlines dub him “Lord Voldeborb.” So Bob has a series of memoirs published to prove how dissimilar he is to his brother.

And eventually having all these books written about him convinces him that he can write. So he writes an autobiography about how boring his life is.

I just looked this up and it turned out it was about a production of “cat on a hot tin roof”, a play which famously features a closeted gay lead character. a member of the audience was catcalling female actresses and shouting homophobic abuse when actor john lacy, who played the character big daddy, paused his performance and called him out. the heckler replied “what are you going to do about it?” to which lacy responded by leaping down into the audience and knocking him to the ground.
