If you needed more of a reason to love Wales, a video recently went a bit viral on Welsh Twitter in which a notorious actual millionaire was shouting at and threatening some kids in a local skate park, telling them that he couldn't stand living near it (even though it was already there when he bought his nearby McMansion) and that he'd personally offered to pay £500k to get the park moved further from his house, and also weirdly bragging about his brand new Ferrari and just generally being incredibly unpleasant to a bunch of kids who weren't being rude or antisocial and were in fact literally doing nothing except skating in a public skate park, and ever since the video went viral, loads and loads of people have been driving past this guy's gaudy McMansion night and day and beeping their car horns at all hours of the night just to teach the rotten old fuckwit a lesson through the age-old Welsh revenge medium of really, really pissing him off... there's a reason we're so famous as a nation for our poetry

Asshole in question runs a big used car dealership in the area, and now other used car dealerships are doing things like taking snacks and drinks to the skatepark at lunchtime each day for the kids, and making social media videos about how much they love skaters and even employ them. The local escape rooms are offering 10% off games to skaters who turn up with a skateboard and show a trick.

It’s also seen thousands of people sign the petition to get the skatepark renovated, which had been languishing on about 6000 signatures but suddenly shot up to 20K almost overnight, last I checked. The renovations to the skatepark have full funding and were given planning permission, incidentally, and then a small group of very rich and well-connected locals (I WONDER WHO) mounted a bunch of legal challenges to try to block it. INTERESTINGLY, in the video of the pair of horrors harassing and threatening the kids, one of the things our Mark said was that he’d tried to bribe the Council with half a million to move the skatepark elsewhere but they’d said no.

Today, he has withdrawn his opposition to the skatepark. No word on whether or not people have stopped beeping their horns at his house.
